The Yale Environment 360 Film Contest accepts entries of environmental films from around the world. Submissions should focus on an environmental issue and be a maximum of 20 minutes in length. The MIDORI Prize is a biennial international prize to honor individuals who have made outstanding contributions to the conservation and sustainable use of biodiversity at global, regional, or local levels. The EDGE of Existence Program provides fellowships for two-year projects in research and conservation of EDGE (Evolutionarily Distinct and Globally Endangered) mammals, amphibians, corals, and birds. The program is open to early-career conservation biologists who are nationals or residents of the country in which the EDGE species occur. The focus in 2024 is EDGE species in Asia and the Pacific. EDGE Fellows receive a grant of up to £10 thousand; an opportunity to attend two regional training courses and to undertake online modules in relevant topics; and one-to-one support from a scientific advisor. The Blue Action Fund announces a new open call for grant proposals focusing on the Eastern Tropical Pacific Region. The Fund provides individual grants to selected conservation projects with focus on marine protected areas (MPAs) to support conservation of biodiversity, and projects that seek to enhance livelihood conditions and food security. The Fund will award grants of €2-4 million. Eligible applicants are non-profit organizations with proven experience in coastal and marine conservation and sustainable livelihood development in the area. The Association of Field Ornithologists will provide one-year membership awards to qualified Latin American Ornithologists. These awards are restricted to individuals based in Latin America (including the Caribbean, Mexico, Central and South America). The University of Queensland Australia, in partnership with edX, offers an online course on tropical coastal ecosystems. Participants will develop the skills and knowledge needed to help preserve tropical coastal ecosystems and have a basic understanding of the value, vulnerability, dynamics and sustainable management, as well as learning the process of designing and implementing an experiment in a virtual ecology project. The Protect-an-Acre Fund makes small grants to protect forests, promote local self-sufficiency, and strengthen the rights and livelihoods of forest communities. The International Land Coalition (ILC) supports African environmental and land defenders who find themselves in emergency situations due to the nature of their work. The African Emergency Fund is intended to respond to emergency situations such as temporary relocation; urgent legal assistance; financial support to the family in case of a defender’s death, serious injury or imprisonment; and urgent medical support. Beneficiaries of the fund are ILC members (individuals in member organizations or organizations). ILC members can also apply on behalf of organizations and communities. The International Marine Animal Trainers Association (IMATA) provides financial support for investigations which advance the humane care and handling of marine animals by fostering communication between professionals that serve marine animal science through training, public display, research, husbandry, conservation, and education. The Earth Journalism Network (EJN) makes reporting grants to support the production of in-depth stories that highlight previously untold threats to global biodiversity or explore new conservation-based solutions. Applications are open to journalists working in any medium (online, print, television, radio) and other expert media practitioners with experience in investigative reporting and covering environmental issues.
