The Critical Ecosystem Partnership Fund (CEPF) invites applications for small grants (up to US$20 thousand) in support of biodiversity conservation in the East Melanesian Islands. Eligibility for funding extends to community groups and associations, NGOs, private enterprises, universities, research institutes, and other civil society organizations. The GBIF Secretariat seeks contractors to support cooperative activities with focus on further developing access and data linkage to scientific collections and ecological datasets in Asia. Applicants are expected to provide technical help-desk assistance, training and mentoring to support institutional engagement in the mobilization and use of biodiversity data. The Afri-Plastics Challenge seeks proposals that focus on solving the marine plastics problem in Sub-Saharan Africa. The Challenge aims to reduce marine plastics by developing and scaling innovative solutions to plastic mismanagement. Challenge prizes are competitions that offer a reward for the first or best solution to a problem. The process identifies the most promising and supports them with seed funding and expert support to develop the idea further. Applicants must be formally constituted and operating in Sub-Saharan Africa as either a registered business or non-governmental organization. The closing date for applications is 15 September 2021. About the Afri-Plastics Challenge

The Earth Journalism Network (EJN) offers story grants to journalists to support the production of in-depth stories that will call attention to zoonotic diseases and One Health in Asia and the Pacific region. Stories can be produced in any language, but the application must be submitted in English. ENJ accepts applications from journalists residing in Southeast Asia, South Asia, East Asia and the Pacific Islands (but not Australia and New Zealand). ENJ expects to award 20 grants with an average grant amount of US$1,500, depending on proposal and needs. Larger grant amounts may be considered, if justified. The application deadline is 15 August 2021. Zoonotic Diseases Reporting Grants

The French Institute of Tunisia launches the Youth & Environment program which is intended for local Tunisian associations proposing a concrete and realistic project on the theme of environmental protection. Projects committed to the protection of coastal and maritime areas are eligible. The program will select 18 projects to be implemented over a 2 year period. The Natural History Book Store supports science and conservation by supplying wildlife and environment books and equipment. In its Gratis Books Scheme, NHBS collaborates with other UK-based organizations to donate books on ecology and conservation to worthy recipients in the developing world. Individuals may request a book for themselves or suggest it for others. Save Our Species (SOS) is open to applications for Rapid Action Grants in the framework of the SOS African Wildlife initiative. SOS accepts applications for projects targeting terrestrial and freshwater threatened species in South Africa. Rapid Action Grants are open to projects responding to threats linked to the COVID-19 crisis and its consequences. Grant funding to a maximum of 100,000 EUR is available to civil society organisations and public entities. The maximum grant size is €100 thousand with no matching funds required. Wild Animal Initiative provides grants for research projects that help us understand and improve the lives of wild animals. Grant size varies from US$25 thousand to US$250 thousand. Currently, the Initiative solicits proposals for research on the welfare, ecology, and everyday experiences of juvenile wild animals. Relevant projects might include studies that extend captive animal welfare assessment techniques to juvenile wild animals, or those that demonstrate how ecological concepts can relate to wild animal health and wellbeing. Wild Animal Initiative prioritizes work on the most numerous wild animals, such as rodents, fish, and even invertebrates. This call is open to anyone. The Critical Ecosystem Partnership Fund (CEPF) and the Prespa Ohrid Nature Trust (PONT) invite Letters of Inquiry (LOIs) for small grants (up to US$20 thousand) for projects that support the sustainable management of water catchments in the wider Prespa-Ohrid area (Albania and North Macedonia). The Fondation Segré Research Support Grants provide support to young and early-career researchers in their research to improve the knowledge on species and their role in natural ecosystems. The maximum grant size is €7 thousand for a maximum duration of 12 months. Applicants have to be enrolled at an academic institution in order to apply. The call remains open until 31 August 2021.
