WHOI invites professional science writers, journalists, producers, and editors from all around the world to apply for the one-week residential Ocean Science Journalism Fellowship. The program is designed to introduce science journalists to the interdisciplinary and wide-ranging fields of oceanography and ocean engineering through seminars, laboratory visits, and brief field expeditions. The European Commission seeks to enhance climate resilience in Sierra Leone and Guinea. Through this call for proposals the EC invites projects that aim to protect the Outamba-Kilimi National Park (Sierra Leone), Kuru Hills Forest Reserve (Sierra Leone), Pinselli and Soyah Classified Forests (Guinea) and the buffer zones and forest corridors that inter-connect them. Grants requested under this call for proposals must fall between €1.45 million and €2.9 million. UK’s Natural Environment Research Council (NERC) and Singapore’s National Research Foundation (NRF) invite proposals for collaborative research projects to understand the impact of plastic pollution on marine ecosystems in Southeast Asia. Applicants may request up to S$1.25 million from NRF and up to £700 thousand from NERC. Applications are sought from teams comprising researchers from Singapore, the UK and low- and middle-income countries in Southeast Asia. The Critical Ecosystem Partnership Fund (CEPF) and the Prespa Ohrid Nature Trust (PONT) invite Letters of Inquiry (LOIs) for small grants (up to €50 thousand) for projects that support the conservation of plants or the sustainable management of water catchments in the wider Prespa area. Eligibility extends to non-governmental organizations, scientific institutions and academic institutions legally registered in Albania or North Macedonia. The North American Banding Council (NABC) and Association of Field Ornithologists (AFO) invite applications for small grants that support the development and certification of Latin American and Caribbean bird banders. Grants can be made to groups organizing NABC-based certification sessions and/or NABC-based training sessions that culminate in a certification opportunity. The European Commission aims to strengthen environmental protection and mitigation of climate change by protecting environmental human rights and their defenders. This call focuses on (1) Promoting the transition to a low carbon economy in the Peruvian Amazon; and (2) Improving compliance with Environmental Human Rights (DHA) for better environmental governance. Projects with focus on low-carbon transition can apply for funding of between €500 thousand and €805 thousand. Projects with focus on environmental human rights can apply for funding up to €382 thousand. UK Research and Innovation (UKRI) invites proposals for international, interdisciplinary, collaborative research projects with the aim to reduce the impacts of plastic waste in developing countries. This call aims to support up to five projects with a value of up to £3.5 million (note: overseas organisations are eligible for 100% direct project costs). The European Marine Board (EMB) seeks creative young ambassadors that are willing to play a role in advocating for EMB and promoting the role and relevance of marine science. EMB ambassadors will participate in various activities, including EMB Plenary meetings and external events or workshops. The Ambassador will receive a total grant of €2 thousand and a travel grant up to a total amount of €3 for meeting and events. Ambassadors should commit up to 120 hours per year for a period of 2 years. Any PhD or postdoc student with experience in marine-based research is welcome to apply. MedPAN launches a new call for small projects to support Marine Protected Areas (MPAs) in the Mediterranean. This call targets co-management approaches for Marine Protected Areas. The call is only open to Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia, Lebanon, Turkey, and Albania. MedPAN’s contribution will be €20 thousand per project (matching contributions of 25 % are required).
