The Earth Journalism Network (EJN) invites environmental, conservation or science-based journalism organizations in Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania to apply for grants to work with African journalists to improve and increase wildlife and conservation coverage in the media. The proposed activities should include capacity building; issuing travel/reporting grants to journalists; and media roundtables/workshops. The grant will cover activities over the course of one year for a maximum of US$10 thousand. The application deadline is 25 October 2019. Details

The Chulabhorn Graduate Institute (CGI) and the ASEAN Foundation (AF) accept applications for the Post-graduate Scholarship Program in Science and Technology 2020. Fields of study under this program are (1) Applied Biological Sciences: Environmental Health; (2) Environmental Toxicology; (3) and Chemical Biology. The scholarship will cover tuition, round trip airfare, a monthly stipend, book allowance, and health insurance, among other expenses. BeAnimal invited submissions to the autumn writing competition. Participants have to submit a short story (500-1000 words in length) about nature and sustainability. The grand prize is a trip to the Valley of Flowers National Park in India. The contest is open to anyone. Submissions have to be made in English. The submission deadline is 16 December 2019. More

The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) seeks applications from qualified entities to reduce threats to biodiversity resulting from the illegal wildlife trade in Uganda. Project proposals under this call should include activities in inter-agency cooperation, law enforcement capacity building, and information sharing for better implementation of anti-wildlife crime approaches. USAID intends to provide up to US$4 million, to be allocated over the five-year period. Eligibility for this call is not restricted. Any U.S. or non-U.S. organizations, non-profit, or for-profit entity is eligible to apply. The closing date for applications is 21 October 2019. More here

SANDEE invites concept notes for research projects in the area of environmental and resource economics relating to the development of South Asia and the Hindu Kush-Himalayan Region. SANDEE has particular interest in research proposals on forest restoration. Grants will range between US$20 thousand and US$30 thousand. Larger grants for multidisciplinary teams and transboundary issues are possible. Researchers (including early-career) from South Asia and the HKH employed by a university, research institute, a government agency or a nonprofit organizations are eligible. Green Campus Initiative offers a 12 month fellowship program which will serve as a platform for executing eco-conscious ideas and innovations. Successful applicants will receive stipends and funded training. Applicants must be a recent graduate or postgraduate student currently undertaking a leadership role in an organization, company or association. The fellowship opportunity is open to all countries. The Forest Foundation Philippines supports activities that foster the protection and sustainable management of forests in the Philippines. Proposed projects should contribute to the protection and sustainable management of forests and biodiversity. Grants may be used for scientific research, piloting forest management strategies in small islands ecosystems (includes Indigenous and Community Conserved Areas and Locally Conserved Areas), mangrove rehabilitation, or plant nurseries. Proponents may apply for small (Php 500 thousand), medium (Php 4 million) or large grants (Php 24 million). Individuals, groups and organizations are eligible to apply. Pura Vida Conservation seeks to improve the productivity and health of natural lands throughout the Americas. The organization aims to interconnect fragmented natural areas through strategic and innovative conservation methods, while actively working to enable humans to exist sustainably within the biosphere. The Douglas Tweedale Memorial Fellowship will be awarded to two Latin American journalists who seek to improve their environmental reporting skills. The two-week professional program will take place in Lima (Peru). Participants will have appointments with area investigative journalists, environmental experts, and short embeds with media outlets specializing in environmental coverage. Pride Lion Conservation Alliance and Colorado State University offer a special training as part of Pathways Africa 2020: Human Dimensions of Wildlife Conference and Training (February 2020). The 3-day training workshop is aimed at women conservationists to help strengthen their leadership skills to achieve greater conservation outcomes across Africa. Successful applicants will have their accommodation, meals, and conference registration fully funded. Additional stipends will be available for travel expenses up to US$500.
