The Earth Journalism Network (EJN) invites journalists from South Africa to apply for a media workshop on covering pathways to Net Zero, to be held in Johannesburg (January/February 2023). The workshop will help journalists improve their understanding of the energy transition, and learn how to report more effectively on climate change. The workshop is open to journalists from print, television, online and/or radio. EJN will bear the travel, accommodation, and meal costs of selected participants. ADB South Asia Department (SARD) aims to increase the visibility of the importance of climate research and build climate action capacity in ADB developing member countries. The Data Visualization Challenge seeks data scientists and practitioners to create novel and insightful visualizations on climate change and resilience. The winner will have the potential to be contracted by ADB to develop and deliver workshops on data literacy and visualization for a total contractual value up to US$10 thousand. Germany’s International Climate Initiative (IKI) supports projects on climate change mitigation and adaptation, and biodiversity projects that have climate relevance. The focus of the IKI Medium Grants scheme is to provide support to the implementation of projects addressing the global loss of biodiversity in connection with climate change. Each project can receive a grant of between €300 thousand to a maximum of €800 thousand over a period of two to three years. Funding is available for non-profit organizations (associations, foundations, think tanks) and academic institutions (universities and research institutions), as well as non-profit companies in Germany. Projects have to be implemented in collaboration with local implementing organizations in ODA countries. Project outlines can be submitted by 13 December 2022. Climate Initiative Medium Grants

The Adaptation Fund Climate Innovation Accelerator (AFCIA) accepts applications for small grant funding. Grants are US$60 thousand (for new pilot projects) or US$125 thousand (for organizations with established customers). Funding should be used to enhance local climate action through the implementation of innovative locally-led adaptation practices, tools, and technologies. Grant funding is open to non-profit organizations, civil society organizations, business member associations, cooperatives, and community-based organizations registered in a developing country. The Trust for Sustainable Living (TSL) Schools Sustainability Challenge is a video contest for schools around the world. Schools are invited to create a short video (max. 1 minute) showcasing their best messages on ‘My Local Sustainability Challenges’. Schools have to register a Teacher Champion to participate. The European Commission seeks to contribute to green and inclusive economic growth in Mexico by strengthening the capacity of civil society to participate and influence reinforcing nature-based climate change adaptation measures. Project partners should prioritize the implementation and monitoring of public policies for adaptation to climate change, through measures based on coastal and maritime ecosystems. Applicants may request up to €1.8 million for their action plans. Eligibility extends to non-profit civil society organizations established in a Member State of the European Union or Mexico. The European Commission (EC) offers grants for innovation on floating wind energy deployment optimized for deep waters and different sea basins (Mediterranean Sea, Black Sea, Baltic Sea, North-east Atlantic Ocean). The proposal is expected to deploy in one of the sea basins in Europe. Applicants must be established in a Member State of the European Union, countries associated with Horizon Europe or low- and middle-income countries. The application deadline is 23 February 2023. SOAS University offers free massive open online courses (MOOCs) to get an introduction in a new subject. MOOCs are general level courses that require only one to two hours commitment each week. Courses include one on Global Energy and Climate Policy as well as other thematic areas in the broad scope of Global Diplomacy. Courses are online and self-paced. Link to available courses

The Media Foundation for West Africa (MFWA) accepts applications for the Climate Change Journalism Fellowship. The aim is to train and capacitate local journalists to report on the climate change crisis and how it is affecting the lives and livelihoods in African countries. Fellows will work remotely from their home countries and participate in virtual training workshops, seminars, and speaking engagements. The opportunity is open to journalists from Senegal, Ghana, Nigeria, Burkina Faso, Côte d’Ivoire, Niger, Togo, Benin, Guinea, and Mali. The deadline for application is 30 September 2022. The Earth Journalism Network (EJN) offers reporting grants to journalists in the Asia-Pacific region, to support the production of in-depth stories on environmental and climate injustice. EJN plans to make 20 story grants of US$1,000 each to youth journalists aged 30 and below to produce innovative and engaging stories on environmental and climate issues in the region.  The application deadline is 05 October 2022.
