The Mülheim Water Award honors practice-oriented research and development projects as well as the implementation of innovative concepts for a secure drinking water supply and water analysis. People or institutions from Europe (geographically defined, not politically) can apply with innovative procedures, products, concepts and new findings with a strong focus on practical use and application within water management. The prize is €10 thousand. Applications can be submitted until 29 February 2024. Mülheim Water Award

The Coca-Cola Foundation’s priority areas for grant making are women, well-being, and water. Past projects include grants for access to clean water and sanitation; watershed management in water-stressed areas; multiple-use systems for water; and education and awareness in water conservation. Grants are generally made to tax-exempt nonprofit charitable organizations. Grant seekers apply for cash grants or fund-raising sponsorships. Coca-Cola’s regional and country foundations share these global priorities and add others — mainly in areas of education, health, and environment. Applications can be submitted at any time. Link

The Zuckerberg Institute for Water Research (ZIWR) offers a biannual award to acknowledge the outstanding achievements and global impact of an individual or organization in the broader field of water. The Executive Committee welcomes the nomination of candidates researching, developing or implementing impactful and lasting water solutions. The award consists of US$60 thousand. The World Bank invites youth aquapreneurs (age 18-35) to apply to the Youth Innovation Challenge: Water Solutions for a New Climate Reality. Participants will receive training, support, and mentorship from World Bank professionals. The challenge is open to youth entrepreneurs from around the world. The ProBleu funding initiative supports primary and secondary schools as essential champions in educating children and youth about blue sustainability and the safeguarding of marine and freshwater ecosystems. The call is open to primary and secondary-level schools in the EU Member States and associated countries. Schools can apply for up to €10 thousand for water & ocean literacy projects that last up to a year. The application deadline is 19 January 2024. Link to ProBleu

The IHE Delft/FirstRand Scholarship provides full funding for one South African student a year to study for an MSc in Water and Sustainable Development at IHE Delft Institute for Water Education. Before applying for the scholarship, prospective students first need to apply and be admitted to the MSc in Water and Sustainable Development from IHE Delft. The Rotary Foundation partners with UNESCO to offer funding for masters studies in water and sanitation. Applicants for Rotary’s support must be provisionally admitted to one of the three participating degree programs at UNESCO’s Institute for Water Education (IHE). Students apply via their local Rotary club or district. Each award is approximately €34 thousand, paid directly to UNESCO-IHE. The Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) seeks solutions and innovations from the private sector that can be adopted by service providers in Latin America and the Caribbean to assure safely managed drinking water and the resilience of water systems. Funding ranges from US$250 thousand to US$400 thousand. Only organizations focused on water and sanitation service providers or those aiming to showcase verifiable advancements tailored to service providers will qualify. Imagine H2O seeks innovative water solutions from anywhere in the world. Any company offering solutions for water access, safety, resilience or efficiency is welcome to apply. Selected candidates will have access to a network of industry executives, experts and entrepreneurs and showcase their ideas during a week-long bootcamp at the Water Innovation Week. The Young Water Diplomats Program is an interdisciplinary training and networking program for early-career diplomats engaged in international water and environmental politics. The program features online and in-person learning activities with the aim to enhance participants’ understanding of transboundary water challenges and advance their ability to use tools for water cooperation and diplomacy.
