The RISE fellowship supports early-stage female entrepreneurs (or female-led NGOs) working to resolve critical water, sanitation or hygiene issues in emerging economies. The fellowship provides mentorship, seed funding (US$1,000 – US$5,000) and resources to female entrepreneurs living in low to middle income countries. Applicants are invited to submit an idea for an initiative that will improve the local water, sanitation and hygiene of their own community. The fellowship is open to women worldwide. InfoNile seeks proposals for in-depth reporting on the Impacts of Covid-19 on irrigation and water access and use by farmers. The program invites journalists (TV journalists and local radio journalists) to investigate agriculture water supply, sanitation, and hygiene (AgriWASH). InfoNile is interested in multimedia stories focusing on how Covid-19 is impacting agricultural water management in the Nile basin countries. Most grants will be around US$1,000. Eligibility extends to all countries in Africa’s Nile River basin, especially arid Egypt and Sudan as well as drought-ridden areas of Kenya, Ethiopia and Uganda. MDPI, a publisher of peer-reviewed, open access journals, invites applications for the Water 2021 Best PhD Thesis Award. This prize will be awarded to a PhD student who is about to graduate or defend their graduation thesis. The award consists of CHF800 and a free publication in MDPI Water before the end of 2022. Applicants must be postdoctoral researchers or Ph.D. students working in the field of water or related areas. Applications have to be submitted by 10 November 2021. Details

The European Commission supports inclusive growth and resilience to extreme climate conditions in rural communities in Tajikistan, based on improved agriculture and sustainable use of water and natural resources. The EU invites projects that improve the added value of agricultural production and the management of natural resources, or promote the sustainable and efficient use of water. European Commission seeks to improve the governance of water for agricultural, drinking and pastoral use in Madagascar. The priorities of this call for proposals are drinking water supply, pastoral hydraulic works, as well as water, hygiene and sanitation. The overall indicative amount made available is €1,3 million. Eligibility extends to non-profit organizations established in a Member State of the European Union or Madagascar. The application deadline is 14 September 2021. Link

Global Youth Take Action invites projects with the objective to support the implementation of youth-led initiatives related to sustainable water resources management and climate change adaptation. The call for projects aims to support initiatives regarding water & health, water & agriculture, water-related risks, and water sharing working towards Sustainable Development Goals. Selected projects will receive financial support up to CA$5 thousand each and technical support. The project must be led and implemented by youth aged between 18 and 35. Projects from low- and middle-income countries, projects targeting indigenous communities, projects led by young women and projects targeting women will be prioritized. Aqua for All, World Waternet and Accenture seek entrepreneurs and innovators with breakthrough ideas and technologies for an integrated, collection, transport and treatment system of wastewater and human waste in urban settings. The 2021 theme for the challenge is ‘Sanitation and Health’. Winners have the chance to win up to €100 thousand for implementation of their solution. The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) seeks applications for a cooperative agreement from qualified entities to implement the Enhancing Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) Activity. The goal of the activity is to increase access to sustainable WASH services in districts located in six regions of northern Ghana. USAID intends to provide US$39 million in total USAID funding over a five-year period. Eligibility for this call is not restricted and is open to all entities that can meet the requirements. The Thiess International Riverprize 2021 invites applications from any organization or partnership that has implemented a successful program benefiting a river, lake, wetland, or estuary in any part of the world. This year, the emphasis will be on building community and river resilience rather than recovery. The winner will receive the cash prize and a trophy. The application deadline is 31 May 2021. The European Commission invites applications for early stage researcher PhD studentships on the Marie Skłodowska-Curie action (MSCA) European Training Network inventWater (Inventive forecasting tools for adapting water quality management to a new climate) program. The program offers a full time employment contract for 36 months (with the possibility to extend to 48 months) at a competitive salary. A total of 15 PhD positions at 10 different institutions across eight European countries are available. Applicants should be in the first four years of their research careers and not yet have been awarded a doctorate. The initial deadline for applications is 22 April 2021.
