HSBC has a major presence in Hong Kong, where it founded the Hongkong Bank Foundation. The Foundation makes grants for education, training, community welfare, and the environment in Hong Kong and mainland China.

Community projects. The Hongkong Bank Foundation makes grants to locally-registered voluntary agencies and charities in Hong Kong and mainland China that are active in education, community welfare, and environmental protection.

The Foundation funds a major scholarship program for university students in Hong Kong.

In partnership with three major environmental organizations, HSBC (UK) committed US$100 million over five years to the HSBC Water Program to improve community water supply and sanitation in the developing world.

The Eco-Schools Program is an HSBC partnership with the Foundation for Environmental Education (UK) to inspire action on climate change by improving the environmental efficiency of schools, including schools in several developing countries.
