The Foundation makes grants for collecting, aggregating, interpreting, and publishing data on biodiversity. The Foundation emphasizes projects in the developing world, with a focus on Sub-Saharan Africa.

Grants for biodiversity information. The Foundation makes grants in support of the following objectives:

  • Developing and applying new technologies and methods to collect and interpret biological information;
  • Building the capacity of researchers and institutions in collecting, interpreting, and using biodiversity data;
  • Making biodiversity information widely available to users of scientific data, policy makers, and the public.

About the program

 

Most grant recipients are universities, research and development institutes, and conservation organizations and networks.

Grants normally range from US$50 thousand to US$200 thousand, with some that are smaller. There are no nationality restrictions.

APPLICATION: The Foundation uses a two-stage process to select grant recipients.

The Foundation posts requests for pre-proposals (concept notes) to be submitted online before a calendar deadline.

The Foundation subsequently invites a limited number of full proposals from selected applicants.
