Neotropical Grassland Conservancy
Conservation of savannas, gallery forests, wetlands, and associated grassland ecosystems and wildlife in Latin America
Principal Office: USA
The Neotropical Grassland Conservancy (NGC) provides grants and equipment to students and scientists working in grassland habitats in Central and South America.
Grant Programs for Agriculture, Energy, Environment, Natural ResourcesThe NGC makes research grants, equipment grants, and student grants.
1 — Memorial Grants. The Memorial Grants fund research on neotropical grassland conservation. Grants for one year are unrestricted, and they can be used for direct or indirect costs, including salaries. Eligibility for funding extends to Latin American researchers affiliated with a university, museum, or conservation organization.
2 — Research Equipment. This program offers equipment to conservation scientists and students in the American tropics to assist their research and education. Examples are microscopes, GPS units, mist nets, video cameras, binoculars, and science textbooks. The equipment is either donated, or purchased and sent to Latin America at relatively little expense.
3 — Student Grants. Student grants of US$1 thousand are awarded to Latin American students enrolled in a M.S. or Ph.D. program of graduate conservation in the USA or South America. The funding is intended to help support field research projects (e.g., for transportation, lodging, meals, and consumable field supplies).
The Conservancy describes the amount of funding; eligibility criteria; review process; and application deadlines for each of the three programs.
