WLTGrants for land purchases that contribute to biodiversity conservation

Principal Office: UK

The World Land Trust (WLT) aims to protect the world’s most biologically important and threatened wildlife by funding land purchases and protection. The WLT steers this funding through partner conservation organizations in the developing world.

Since establishment in 1989, the Trust has helped to purchase and protect over 500 thousand acres of threatened wildlife habitat.

Support for land purchase and related conservation actions. The WLT provides funding for the initial acquisition of land that has conservation importance. It also funds additional activities related to protection, biodiversity monitoring, education, outreach, habitat restoration, and species reintroduction.

WLT’s support often takes the form of corridors to connect protected areas and to strengthen wildlife conservation strategies.

The Trust works with legally registered and experienced conservation NGOs based in developing countries.

About the program

APPLICATION: The WLT posts criteria to outline the types of projects it will support. The Trust emphasizes that it funds very few unsolicited applications.

Qualified conservation organizations which seek to become a WLT partner prepare a project proposal to summarize the project’s location; biodiversity importance; current status and proposed project activities; breakdown of project costs; activities additional to land acquisition; options for sustainable income from the project; and an organizational profile.

There is no calendar deadline.
