Kurita Water and Environment Foundation

The Kurita Water and Environment Foundation (KWEF) is a nonprofit organization established by Kurita Water Industries, Ltd. The Foundation aims to contribute to the development of new methods of water conservation and environmental protection.
The KWEF makes grants to scientists in Asia who are conducting research in their own countries on the conservation and restoration of water resources. This refers to oceans, surface water, and soil and underground water.
Grant Programs for Agriculture, Energy, Environment, Natural Resources
Research in water resources. The Foundation makes grants for any research subject in the field of water resources, provided that they are located in the researcher’s home country. Thematic areas of the research include:
- Physical and chemical properties of water;
- New technologies for conservation and restoration of water resources; and
- New technologies for water measurement and assessment.
Grant recipients are young researchers at universities and research institutes in the eligible countries.
Grants are for a maximum ¥300 thousand per project per year.
Applicants must be citizens of the countries in which they reside. The research supported by KWEF should be at a national university, college, or associated institute.
Applicants are preferably under 40 years of age. Applicants must have a Japanese advisor, either in Japan or in the applicant’s country.
Grant seekers submit an application form (in English) outlining the research plan and budget. Applications should include a letter of recommendation from the applicant’s Japanese advisor.
