The first edition of the Social Alpha Energy Challenge (SAEC) invites individuals and start-ups with innovative technology solutions across the entire energy life cycle to apply to the Social Alpha Energy Challenge. Up to ten winners will be awarded 6-18 months of intense mentoring at the upcoming Tata Smart Energy Incubation Center. The Challenge calls for innovations across the entire energy lifecycle and is open to energy application in all use cases including (but not limited to) households, agriculture, biofuels, and others. Western Union — Scholarship for Undergraduate Study
The Western Union Foundation Global Scholarship Program is a program designed to support young people and their efforts to pursue a post-secondary education in science, technology, engineering, mathematics, or business/entrepreneurship. Selected scholarship recipients will receive USD $2,500 each to contribute toward tuition at an accredited post-secondary institution. GSMA — Ecosystem Accelerator Innovation Fund
The GSMA Ecosystem Accelerator Innovation Fund will support projects that use mobile technologies to improve access to energy, water, and/or sanitation services for underserved communities in Sub-Saharan Africa, the Indian Subcontinent, and Southeast Asia. Applications are welcome from mobile network operators and mobile tower companies in partnerships with service providers for energy, water, and sanitation. Grants are up to £250 thousand. Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Finland — Southern African Innovation Support Programme
SAIS 2 provides grants to projects that seek to pilot, demonstrate and replicate concepts and prototypes before rolling them out to the market. (Note: this may include one or more thematic areas of the Terra Viva Grants directory). The objective is to support entrepreneurship and early-stage entrepreneurs as well as to strengthen the cooperation amongst innovation organizations in Botswana, Namibia, South Africa, Tanzania and Zambia. Applications are open for the Stephen Lloyd Awards. The awards seek nurturing innovative ideas and projects from all around the world that can lead to practical, sustainable social change. This includes one or more categories of the Terra Viva Grants Directory. Funding of up to £20 thousand will be made available to support award winners in developing their initiatives. African-German Network of Excellence in Science — Mobility Grant for Junior Researchers
AGNES seeks applications for its mobility grant scheme for junior researchers to strengthen the scientific capacity and networking in Africa through active co-operation. Selected researchers from sub-Saharan African countries will spend research stays between 1 and 2 months at a university/research institute in another sub-Saharan African country, where they will be collaborating with an experienced researcher. The IDRC seeks proposals on “Accelerating Climate Action: Social Equity and Empowerment of Women and Girls”. Research projects should produce knowledge which facilitates the scaling and financing of socially-transformative climate action, focussing on the resilience and livelihoods of the most vulnerable communities in the developing world. The Applicant must be a research-oriented organization from academia, the private or public sector (e.g., university, government department, NGO) based in Asia, Africa or Latin America. German Academic Exchange Service — Journalistic Scholarship for African Nationals
As part of the Pan African Soil Challenge, the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) in Ethiopia offers a journalistic scholarship within the project “A bridge to Africa”. The aim of the project is to support Africa to implement methods to make food production sustainable and secure. Selected candidates from Africa will meet Geo-scientists from Forschungszentrum Jülich in Accra, to get in contact with the latest methods of modern geoscientific research – modeling and simulation with supercomputers.
