InfoNile — Scientist-Journalist Co-Production Fellowship

InfoNile invites applications from journalists and scientists in the Nile Basin countries (Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania, Rwanda, Burundi, Ethiopia, Egypt, DRC, Sudan, and South Sudan) for a fellowship program (June 2024 to March 2025) that will involve training, mentorship, and coproduction of communication outputs based on scientific research. Journalists with an interest in water and the environment; and scientists and researchers from different disciplines working on topics related to water and/or the environment, such as climate change; biodiversity; water quality; water infrastructure, and hydrology in the Nile Basin countries are invited to apply. Canada Fund for Local Initiatives — Community Projects in Brazil

The Canada Fund for Local Initiatives (CFLI) invites proposals that meet the needs of local communities in Brazil. CFLI provides funding to projects that implement environment and climate action projects focusing on adaptation and mitigation, targeted response in the event of disasters as well as water management and other thematic areas. The average contribution is C$30 thousand per project. Eligibility extends to not-for-profit local, national, or community-based organizations. The deadline for submission is 01 April 2024. World Trade Organization — Young Professionals Program

The World Trade Organization (WTO) seeks applications from qualified young professionals (up to 32 years) who are nationals of a developing or least-developed country. The Young Professionals Program (YPP) offers selected young professionals the opportunity to gain work experience in the WTO. Each professional may express interest in up to three areas of the WTO, including Agriculture, Sanitary and Phytosanitary measures, Trade, and Environment, among many others. Young Professionals receive a monthly salary starting at CHF 4,000 (depending on their qualifications). The application deadline is 02 April 2024. Find more information here

Earth Journalism Network — Biodiversity Media Grants 2024

The Internews Earth Journalism Network (EJN) offers Biodiversity Media Grants to support journalism networks and media organizations throughout the world in increasing the capacity of media to cover critical issues of conservation and biodiversity. EJN is especially interested in projects that focus on conservation in high-biodiversity regions of the world such as the Global South. Preference will be given to applications from or affiliated with professional journalists, media organizations, journalism schools, and the like. However, EJN will also consider applications by NGOs or environmental groups looking to build the capacity of journalists to cover conservation issues. Earth Journalism Network — Seed Grants for Media Outlets in Nepal

The Earth Journalism Network (EJN)offers grants of €4,500 to media outlets in Nepal to support new media programming on natural resource management and green growth. The grants are intended to seed new programs, columns, or sections that focus on providing innovative and solutions-oriented information on green growth and natural resource management to the public and policymakers. Eligibility extends to media outlets in Nepal – including newspapers, online media, radio, television, multimedia platforms, and social media channels. The application deadline is 10 April 2024. University of St. Andrews — St. Andrews Prize for the Environment 2024

The annual St Andrews Prize for the Environment recognizes significant contributions to environmental conservation in the developing world. The subject areas include human-animal conflicts; water and biodiversity; sanitation; air quality; solar power; food supply; waste and recycling; environmental justice; and others. Applications are invited from individuals, multi-disciplinary teams, and community groups. Research projects will not be considered. The Prize consists of an award of US$100 thousand and a medal. Canada Fund for Local Initiatives — Community Projects in Egypt

The Canada Fund for Local Initiatives (CFLI) invites proposals that meet the needs of local communities in Egypt. The priorities under this call include women’s economic rights, decent jobs and entrepreneurship, and investing in the poorest and most vulnerable (which may include agriculture or aquaculture projects), as well as environment, climate action focusing on adaptation and mitigation, and water management. The average contribution is expected to be in the range of C$20 thousand to C$40 thousand per project. Eligibility extends to not-for-profit local, national, or community-based organizations. Critical Ecosystem Partnership Fund — Biodiversity Conservation in Madagascar and the Indian Ocean Islands

The Critical Ecosystem Partnership Fund (CEPF) seeks organizations that address the conservation of biodiversity in light of climate change in the Madagascar and the Indian Ocean Islands Biodiversity Hotspot. CEPF intends to make large grants of more than US$50 thousand in support of the conservation and sustainable use of biodiversity and renewable natural resources. Eligibility for grants extends to NGOs, community groups, private enterprises, universities, and other civil society applicants. The closing date for letters of inquiry is 30 April 2024. International Nature Image Festival — Biodiversity Short Films Contest

The International Nature Image Festival (FIIN) invites submissions of short films (duration 5-28 minutes) that promote biological natural heritage, natural regions, ecosystems, habitats, and species of wild fauna and flora. All formats including animations, documentaries, fiction, experimental films, and music videos are eligible. There are no regional restrictions for participation in the contest. German Academic Exchange Service — Postgraduate Courses in Germany 2025-2026

The German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) offers scholarships to qualified individuals from eligible developing countries for post-graduate studies at German universities in development-related subjects. The program (EPOS) is open to individuals who have completed their previous academic degrees no longer than six years previously; who have at least two years of professional experience; and who are nationals of countries receiving official development assistance (DAC list of the OECD). The available courses range across water resources; renewable energy; land management and tenure; agricultural sciences; forest sciences; ecology; nature conservation; environmental governance; and many others.
