Nagao Natural Environment Foundation — Support for Young Scientists from Asia-Pacific

The Nagao Natural Environment Foundation (NEF) aims to build the capacity of young scientists in developing countries of the Asia-Pacific region. Young researchers (under 40 years old) can submit fieldwork based projects in the areas of biology; biodiversity; wildlife and restoration of ecosystems; and relationships between nature and humans. The maximum grant size is 1.5 million Japanese yen per project. Application deadlines are twice a year: 31 July 2023 and 31 January 2024. Find out more

Asia Foundation — Development Fellows 2024

The Asia Foundation’s Development Fellows program provides qualified young Asian professionals with an opportunity to strengthen their leadership skills and gain in-depth knowledge of Asia’s critical development challenges. The program offers two weeks of leadership training in Asia and another two weeks in the USA, plus a grant of US$5 thousand to support individual plans for professional development. Applicants should be less than age 40 and have demonstrable experience in one of the program’s fields of expertise, which include environment (among others). The program is open to resident nationals and citizens of Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Cambodia, China, India, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Laos, Malaysia, Mongolia, Myanmar, Nepal, Pacific Islands, Pakistan, Philippines, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Timor-Leste, and Vietnam. Morris Animal Foundation — Wildlife First Award

The Morris Animal Foundation makes grants to assist early career researchers in establishing a successful research program. The maximum duration of a First Award is 24 months, and the total budget cannot exceed US$120 thousand. The applicant must have completed a PhD and have a permanent position in a university, accredited zoo or conservation organization, or other non-academic equivalent. Morris Animal Foundation — Wildlife Fellowship Training

The Morris Animal Foundation provides animal health research funding for applicants from historically marginalized groups. Applicants must hold a veterinary degree at the time of the grant award. The maximum duration of a Fellowship Training Grant is 24 months, and the total budget cannot exceed US$145 thousand. The application deadline is 13 September 2023. Wildlife Fellowship Training

Conservation Leadership Programme — Grants for Early-Career Conservationists

The Conservation Leadership Program (CLP) makes grants to advance the leadership capacity of early-career conservationists in the developing world. Grants combine research with conservation. CLP provides support to small teams of at least three individuals. Future Conservationist Awards are up to US$15 thousand. Follow-Up Awards and Leadership Awards are up to US$25 thousand and US$50 thousand, respectively. CLP explains each category of award; eligibility criteria; and details on how to apply. CLP offers support to early-career conservationists living and working in low- and middle-income economies in Africa, Asia, the Pacific, Latin America and the Caribbean, Eastern and South-eastern Europe and the Middle East. German Academic Exchange Service — Bilateral Exchange for Postdoctoral Researchers

The German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) supports exchanges of scientists and academics from partner countries for bilateral research projects in Germany. Foreign academics and scientists with doctoral degrees who work at a university or research institute in EU countries, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Moldova, Russian Federation, Ukraine are eligible to apply. Participants receive monthly stipends of €2 thousand. The application deadlines are 15 November 2023 (for a research stay starting from October 2024) and 30 May 2024 (for a research stay starting from February 2025). More information

Nagao Natural Environment Foundation — Nature Conservation Scholarships for Students from Asia

The NEF Scholarship Scheme financially supports university students from Southeast Asia that study nature conservation (e.g., biology, botany, forestry, etc.) at selected universities and institutes in Indonesia, Myanmar, Vietnam, Lao PDR, Cambodia, and the Philippines. Furthermore, scholarship recipients can attend the NEF Student International Workshop. Participants attend lectures, present their own research, visit research facilities, and practice research skills in the field related to nature conservation. Eligibility requirements vary by country, therefore, interested applicants are required to contact the NEF local counterpart representative in their country for application guidelines. International Union of Forest Research Organizations — Grants for Female Early-Career Scientist

The International Union of Forest Research Organizations (IUFRO) offers a limited number of grants of up to €5 thousand for short scientific visits for female early-career scientists affiliated with IUFRO organizations to visit a forest research organization overseas. The specific duration of the scientific visits will be dependent on the complexity of the proposed projects. Potential applicants are required to contact the potential host organization prior to applying for a grant. Together they shall develop a project proposal and work plan. World Bank — Young Professionals Program 2023

The World Bank Group invites applications for the Young Professionals Program as a starting point for a career at the World Bank. The program is designed for individuals skilled in areas such as agriculture, natural resources, and many others. Applicants should hold a PhD or master’s degree and relevant work experience; be fluent in English; and meet other criteria relevant to experience, skills, and age. The World Academy of Sciences — Regional Workshop on Science Diplomacy

The Academy of Sciences Malaysia (ASM) and the World Academy of Sciences (TWAS) seek candidates to participate in the regional training workshop on science diplomacy. The workshop is designed for applicants from science and technology lagging countries from South and Central Asia.
