Evidence Action Beta calls for applications to collaborate in testing and scaling up the results of research into policies and/or programs that have the potential to benefit millions of people living in poverty. Successful candidates will collaborate with Evidence Action Beta in testing and possibly bringing a promising solution to scale. The program invites individuals or teams who have tested and found a positive impact of an intervention benefiting poor households through a randomized control trial or other rigorous empirical method. Solutions in environment, water and sanitation, etc., are of interest as long as they present an empirically-based connection to decreasing poverty. The deadline for submissions is 03 February 2017. UK Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council — UK-China Offshore Renewables Energy
This is the second of three calls planned under the “UK-China Joint Programme in Low-Carbon Innovation.” The call defines five areas related to offshore renewable energy for joint research participation by UK and Chinese scientists and engineers. UK researchers will be funded with five awards in the order of up to £800 thousand per award over three years. The Natural Science Foundation of China will contribute up to 3 million RMB per project to support Chinese researchers. Expressions of interest need to be submitted by 10 February 2017. Link
World Bank — Public-Private Infrastructure in Water, Energy, and Transportation
The World Bank’s Public-Private Infrastructure Advisory Facility (PPIAF) welcomes submissions on topics pertaining to private-sector participation in infrastructure, public-private partnerships, and sub-national finance for energy, water, and transportation. PPIAF is looking for knowledge products that provide lessons learned or best practices which can be applied across countries and across regions. Proposals are strongly encouraged to include co-financing. Proposals with a focus on gender or climate change are also strongly encouraged. The deadline for submissions is 10 February 2017. Link

ACIAR offers sponsorship assistance to individuals wishing to attend a conference, seminar, workshop or field day that directly benefits agricultural research for development. ACIAR also supports organisations seeking sponsorships for this same objective. The priority is for events and sponsorships in ACIAR partner countries and related to ACIAR projects. However, direct involvement in an ACIAR project is not a prerequisite to apply for funding. The Riverbanks Zoo and Garden (USA) makes grants for field conservation; habitat management; conservation education; ex situ captive breeding; animal health and welfare; and other themes in wildlife research and conservation. The Barilla Center for Food and Nutrition sponsors BCFN YES! (Young Earth Solutions) as an international competition for young researchers on the theme of sustainable food systems. The program offers one-year research grants up to €20 thousand to PhD and postdoc researchers worldwide from any background and nationality. The maximum age is 35. Subject areas include climate change, resilient agriculture, sustainable water management, ecosystem services, food policy, and many others. World Bank — WeMENA Supporting Women Social Entrepreneurs
WeMENA announces a challenge to help women advance solutions across eight cities in the Middle East and North Africa to build resilience to climate change. The cities are Alexandria, Amman, Beirut, Byblos, Cairo, Casablanca, Ramallah, and Tunis. The challenge categories include agriculture and food security; sustainable energy and the environment; water and sanitation; and several others. Participants in the challenge will receive business training, mentoring, and the chance to compete for a share of US$150 thousand in cash awards.
