UK Natural Environment Research Council — Research on Water Quality, UK and India

The UK’s Natural Environment Research Council, in partnership with the UK’s Engineering & Physical Sciences Research Council and India’s Department of Science and Technology, invite proposals on research to improve water quality. The programme aims to provide a better understanding of the sources and fate of different pollutants, and to support the development of management strategies and technologies to reduce pollution levels. Proposals are sought for collaborative projects involving researchers from both the UK and India. The deadline for notifications of intent to submit is 30 March 2017. Link

European Commission — Interreg Mediterannean Program, 2nd Call for Proposals

The Interreg MED Programme calls for modular projects supporting priority axes 1, 2, and 3. These priorities include eco-innovation for sustainable growth; low-carbon strategies and energy efficiency; and protecting and promoting Mediterranean natural and cultural resources. The relevant countries include Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Montenegro in addition to Mediterranean countries of Western Europe. The announcement includes information to find national contact points, and guidelines for making applications. The deadline is 31 March 2017. Link

São Paulo School of Advanced Science on Climate Change — Training and Networking in Climate Change

The São Paulo School of Advanced Science on Climate Change will hold a 2-week training and networking session in July  2017 on the science of climate change.  The Advanced School will focus on five themes, and it will be led by speakers from several countries. The School will accept about 100  graduate students and early-career scientists from Brazil and other countries. The Advanced School will be conducted in English. A limited number of travel grants is available. The application deadline is 31 March 2017.  Link

U.S. Agency for International Development — Asian Women Entrepreneurs in Clean Energy

The USAID Private Financing Advisory Network-Asia, the International Network on Gender and Sustainable Energy, and the Asian Development Bank announce a joint call for proposals for women entrepreneurs in clean energy. Selected woman entrepreneurs and organizations supporting the selected entrepreneurs will receive mentoring support from USAID PFAN-Asia with an aim to secure funding to up-scale their operations. The program is open to women entrepreneurs and organizations in the private sector and in public-private partnerships in  Bangladesh, Cambodia, India, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Maldives, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Philippines, Thailand, and Vietnam. U.S. Agency for International Development — Smart Solutions for Adaptable Cities in Asia

The USAID Private Financing Advisory Network-Asia calls for proposal to advance “Smart Solutions for Adaptable Communities and Cities.”  Examples of these solutions include apps on clean transport and pilot projects on climate-adaptable housing and buildings, water management, and waste management. Selected project developers, technology providers, innovators, and inventors will receive mentoring support from USAID PFAN-Asia with an aim to secure funding to up-scale their operations.  Applications are invited from the private sector, and from public- private partnerships, in Bangladesh, Cambodia, India, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Maldives, Nepal, Sri Lanka, the Philippines, Thailand, and Vietnam.  The deadline for applications is 31 March 2017. World Food Program — Sustainable Food and National Security

The World Food Program’s Centre of Excellence against Hunger, in partnership with the University Centre of Brasília, invite research papers on the topic ”Sustainable Food and Nutrition Security: Building Bridges between Durable Agricultural Practices and School Feeding Programmes.” The contest is open worldwide to students enrolled in graduate programs, as well as professors and graduate researchers in social and political sciences, and nutrition. The three top winners will participate in international study trips organized by the WFP Centre of Excellence. Articles must be submitted in English. The application deadline is 02 April 2017. Link

U.S. Department of State — U.S.-ASEAN Conference on Marine Environmental Issues in the Seas of Southeast Asia

The U.S. Embassy in Bangkok invites proposals from organizations interested in organizing a conference that examines current marine environmental issues in the seas of Southeast Asia. Proposals should encourage think tanks and academia to engage in a comprehensive conversation examining and analyzing international issues related to environmental challenges in the seas of Southeast Asia. U.S. Agency for International Development — Coastal Biodiversity in Central America

USAID’s regional office in Central America invites proposals to conserve biodiversity in targeted coastal-marine areas and associated upland ecosystems; to decrease degradation of forest and mangrove landscapes to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and increase resilience to climate change; and to enhance climate-smart economic opportunities and sustainable use of natural resources (“biocommerce” ). Eligibility for funding is unrestricted. The program will aim to make one award of up to US$17 million over five years. Funding Opportunity RFA-596-17-000002. European Commission — Black Sea Cross-Border Cooperation

The EC announces the first call for proposals of the ENI CBC “Black Sea Basin Joint Operational Programme 2014-2020.” The program aims to promote business and entrepreneurship (including in agriculture), and to promote coordination of environmental protection and reduction of river and marine litter. Participating countries are Armenia, Bulgaria, Georgia, Greece, Moldova, Romania, Turkey, and Ukraine. The deadline for applications is 31 May 2017. Link

Christensen Fund — Grants for Biodiversity and Cultural Diversity

The Christensen Fund makes grants to indigenous-led and community-based organizations for projects that combine biodiversity with cultural diversity. Pre-proposals are accepted for consideration in the following programs: African Rift Valley; Central Asia; Northwest Mexico; Melanesia; Global; and San Francisco Bay Area. Most grants are in the range of US$50 thousand to US$100 thousand for one or two years. The application period for pre-proposals is 01 August through 31 August, except for the Melanesia Program (01 September through 30 September). Link
