Newton Fund — Newton Prize for Excellence in Research and Innovation

The Newton Prize recognizes the best research or innovation projects that promote economic development and social welfare. In 2020, the Prize celebrates the impacts made as a result of international collaborations in Newton partner countries (Egypt, Kenya, Jordan, Turkey, and South Africa). One Newton Prize of up to £200 thousand will be awarded to each of the 5 eligible partner countries. The award is open to applicants who currently hold a Newton award. UK Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council — UK-Brazil Collaborative Research

The BBSRC and FAPESP announce a joint call for collaborative research proposals to encourage and support international research teams in Brazil and the UK. Proposals may be submitted in any area of science that is within the remit of both BBSRC and FAPESP, including biological and natural sciences. Eligibility extends to Higher Education Institutions (HEIs), Research Council Institutes (RCIs), and approved Independent Research Organisations. Swedish International Development Agency — Training Workshop: Mine Water and Mine Waste Management

Sida funds short-term training in selected development topics for participants from relevant organizations and agencies in Eastern and Southern Africa. Invitations are open to applicants for the Advanced International Training Programme “Mine Water and Mine Waste Management.” The overall objective of this program is to develop a sustainable use of natural resources and to secure safe living environments for future generations. Sida will cover costs related to all program phases except personal expenses, visa fees or any local airport taxes and departure fees. The closing date for applications is 24 May 2020. Jawaharlal Nehru Memorial Fund — PhD Studies in India in Ecology and Environment

The Jawaharlal Nehru Memorial Fund offers scholarships to Indian nationals and nationals of other Asian countries for doctoral studies at universities in India. Areas of specialization include ecology and environment (among others). Scholarship applicants must already be admitted for a Ph.D. degree at a recognized institution of higher education in India. Students will receive a maintenance allowance, including tuition fee, of Rs.18 thousand per month. The application period to the Fund is April-May, with a deadline of 31 May each year. Link

Waterloo Foundation — Small Grants

The Waterloo Foundations makes small grants to small UK charities which are working to deliver projects in developing countries. Current funding priorities are Nutrition, Education, WASH and Sexual and Reproductive Health. Organizations based in a developing countries can also apply for support but must provide a reference for their work in form of a UK referee. The majority of grants are £5-£10 thousand for one to two year projects. There is no formal application form, however, interested applicants are required to follow the guidelines provided on the website. Applications are accepted on a rolling basis. Find out more
