African Academy of Sciences — Affiliates Membership Program

The African Academy of Sciences (AAS) Affiliates Membership Program aims to stimulate and nurture scientific discovery and technological innovation in Africa in order to promote sustainable development. ASS invites applications from young and early-to-mid career professionals from Africa in any field of specialization. AAS will organize a range of activities to enhance the professional development of the Affiliate members, including special courses on proposal writing, manuscript preparation, and proposals, etc. Nominations must be received by 23 July 2021. European Marine Research Network — Call for Workshops

EuroMarine announces funding to support workshops in themes of marine conservation and management. Proposals should have a clear foresight dimension and target a scientific publication. Workshop activities receive up to €7,500. Proposals should engage at least three EuroMarine full member organizations in two or more countries. Member organizations include some in the developing world, e.g., Morocco, Peru, South Africa, Tunisia, and Turkey. The deadline for workshops and working groups is 30 July 2021. Mastercard Foundation — Scholarships for Africans at University of Cape Town

The Mastercard Foundation funds economically disadvantaged students from Sub-Saharan Africa for study at University of Cape Town (UCT). The fields of study at UCT include different areas of sciences; and many others. The scholarship includes comprehensive financial assistance with visa applications, travel, tuition, living expenses, medical aid and accommodation. Gray Matters Capital — coLABS Impact Investing Fund

coLABS seeks scalable social enterprises that have the potential to dramatically improve the lives of women and girls around the world. coLABS strategically funds entrepreneurs and early-stage ventures that leverage women, and their critical role in the community through revenue-share investment capital. Zoologische Gesellschaft für Arten- und Populationsschutz — Conservation of Globally Threatened or Data Deficient Species

The primary goal of the Zoological Society for the Conservation of Species and Populations (ZGAP) is the conservation of unknown, but highly endangered species and their natural habitats. ZGAP funds conservation projects for globally threatened or data deficient species, subspecies and populations. Support is often given to young scientists from the developing world who are eager to implement conservation projects in their home countries. The maximum funding amount per project is €5 thousand. Please note that projects in the wealthier industrial countries (Western Europe, North America, Australia and Japan) are only supported in exceptional cases. There is no application deadline. Jephcott Charitable Trust — Program in Natural Environment

The Jephcott Charitable Trust in the UK makes grants for charitable purposes in the subject areas of population control, natural environment, education, and health. Projects in the theme of Natural Environment include examples in small-scale agriculture, livestock production, horticulture, agricultural training, community water supply, environmental education, tree planting, renewable energy, and others. Grants are made in the range of £2 thousand to £10 thousand (in exceptional cases only, up to £20 thousand). Global Fund for Community Foundation — Community Support

The Global Fund for Community Foundation (GFCF) accepts concept notes aimed at strengthening and supporting community philanthropy approaches. Projects may focus on mobilizing local resources and/or foster the growth of local philanthropy for progressive social change. (Note: This may include one or more categories of the Terra Viva Grant directory, including environmental programs.) Grants will be in the range of US$7 thousand to US$20 thousand. Eligibility extends to CPOs based in Africa, Asia, the Middle East, Central and Eastern Europe, or Latin America and the Caribbean. Eligible applicants are welcome to submit a concept note anytime. Pulitzer Center — Reporting Grants for Journalists

The Pulitzer Center on Crisis Reporting provides grants to individual journalists and news organizations to support in-depth, high-impact reporting on topics of global importance. Awards cover reporting costs. Most awards for international travel are between US$5 thousand and US$10 thousand. In light of the current pandemic, the Pulitzer Center prioritizes COVID-19 projects as well as other projects that can be completed without much traveling or where field work can be completed relatively soon and without risking one’s own safety and the safety of others. Well Aware — Water Projects in East Africa

Well Aware aims to help local communities in East Africa find sustainable solutions to address water scarcity and contamination. Well Aware aims to support its water projects with integrated project planning; technical evaluation; project oversight; promotion of partnerships; community training in sanitation and hygiene; and community empowerment.
