German Federal Environmental Foundation — PhD Fellowships

The German Federal Environmental Foundation (DBU) offers 60 research fellowships per year to young scientists in Germany and internationally across all disciplines of environmental protection. The funding period is 36 months with a monthly stipend of €1,500. DBU welcomes subjects of international importance, although the work has to be done mainly in Germany, and with a clear reference to the German environmental situation. Ocean Foundation — Scholarship for Sea Turtle Preservation

The Ocean Foundation and the Boyd Lyon Sea Turtle Fund seek applicants for the Boyd N. Lyon Scholarship. Students with field research projects on sea turtle behavior and habitat use in the marine environment, as well as projects that promote sea turtle conservation in coastal ecosystems can apply. One award of US$2,500 will be made to a Masters or PhD student. The applicants must be enrolled in an accredited college or university during 2021/2022. The application deadline is 15 January 2022. University of Oxford — Urban Studies Program

The Urban Studies program at Oxford University (UK) offers part-time master’s and doctoral courses for practitioners and researchers engaged in cities and urban issues. The MSc in Sustainable Urban Development is a part-time course (taken over two years) and is designed to suit those working in a range of urban contexts worldwide. Supervision is available from a range of specialists across the University of Oxford. MSc scholarships worth over £41 thousand are available. International Center for Journalists — Award for Excellence in African Storytelling

The Michael Elliott Award for Excellence in African Storytelling honors journalists in Africa who strengthen people’s voices and show the transformational change taking place on the continent. The ICFJ seeks a wide variety of topics, not limited to health and social issues. This includes stories and initiatives about global climate change, development challenges, or the environment. Harvard University — Award for Student Research on Asian Tropical Forest Biology

The Arnold Arboretum at Harvard University sponsors the Ashton Award for Student Research to support graduate and advanced undergraduate students working on Asian tropical forest biology. Applications are accepted from advanced undergraduates and graduate students worldwide. Awards are up to US$4 thousand to support research expenses. The application deadline is 01 February 2022. Prince Bernhard Nature Fund — Conservation of Endangered Species

The Prince Bernhard Nature Fund (PBNF) aims to save critically endangered flora and fauna in tropical and subtropical regions of Africa, Asia, and Latin America. It gives funding preference to organizations in these regions, sometimes in partnership with parties in Europe or North America. Projects have to focus on critically endangered species on the IUCN Red List. Grants are up to €20 thousand or US$20 thousand. Oceans & Lakes — Scholarships MSc in Marine and Lacustrine Science and Management

Oceans & Lakes is an interuniversity master program that provides students with a strong fundamental and applied knowledge in the scientific research and management of marine and lacustrine systems. Through the Flemish Inter-University Council (VLIR-UOS), scholarships are provided for this 2-year master program in “Master of Science in Marine and Lacustrine Science and Management” (Oceans & Lakes). For this specific scholarship, eligibility extends to nationals from the VLIR-UOS partner countries (please refer to the call for a complete list of eligible countries). East-West Center — Pacific Islands Leadership Program

The East-West Center welcomes applications for the Pacific Islands Leadership Program with Taiwan to enhance the leadership capacities of young leaders in the Pacific Islands. Participants will spend approximately two months at the East-West Center’s campus in Hawaii, in addition to a month in Taipei at the Taiwan Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ Institute of Diplomacy and International Affairs. The curriculum includes topics in climate change and environmental stewardship, among others. Eligibility extends to early and mid-careers professionals in the Cook Islands, Micronesia, Fiji, French Polynesia, Kiribati, Nauru, Niue, Palau, Papua New Guinea, Marshall Islands, Samoa, Solomon Islands, Tonga, Tuvalu, and Vanuatu. University of Bergen — PhD Courses on Sustainable Development

The Bergen Summer Research School offers parallel short courses for PhD students and young researchers on themes of urgent societal problems focusing on the transition to sustainability. The courses will focus on key global challenges, including socio-economic inequality, psychological and social science perspectives on climate change, and the sustainable development of life below water. Stipends to participate in the course are available for qualified individuals who are currently enrolled for studies and carrying out research in a list of eligible developing countries. RBC Foundation — Tech for Nature

The RBC Foundation accepts applications for its 2022 grant program. RBC Tech for Nature supports new ideas, technologies, and partnerships to solve pressing environmental challenges. Applicants can submit new technologies to solve issues related to climate change, food security, air quality, energy needs, and access to clean water. Eligible applicants are charities and nonprofit organizations in communities where the Royal Bank of Canada has a business presence. Applications are being accepted until 04 February 2022.
