RBC Foundation — Tech for Nature

The RBC Foundation accepts applications for its 2022 grant program. RBC Tech for Nature supports new ideas, technologies, and partnerships to solve pressing environmental challenges. Applicants can submit new technologies to solve issues related to climate change, food security, air quality, energy needs, and access to clean water. Eligible applicants are charities and nonprofit organizations in communities where the Royal Bank of Canada has a business presence. Applications are being accepted until 04 February 2022. Keeling Curve Prize — Global Warming Mitigation Project

The Keeling Curve Prize offers micro-funding and recognition to individuals or organizations with active or ongoing projects that reduce CO2 emissions or increase CO2 uptake. Each year, US$25 thousand will be awarded to up to 10 winners, chosen by internationally recognized climate scientists and energy experts, for innovative ideas that generate, conserve, or design clean energy solutions. This may include a concept, a plan, a product, a technology, or a strategy. Entries are accepted from anywhere in the world. The closing date for applicants is 10 February 2022. Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs — Research Collaboration 2022

Within the framework of Danish development cooperation, the Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs calls for research proposals between Denmark and researchers in partner countries. Window 1 will fund research (sustainable development and climate change) with partners in the Danida priority countries. Window 2 will fund research (renewable energy, environment, water resources, food quality, maritime development) with partners in growth and transition countries. Window 1 is open to research institutions in Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Burkina Faso, Ethiopia, Kenya, Mali, Myanmar, Niger, Palestine, Somalia, Tanzania, and Uganda, in addition to Denmark. Window 2 is open to Danish research organizations in collaboration with research institutions in Bangladesh, Egypt, Ethiopia, Ghana, Indonesia, Kenya, Myanmar, South Africa, and Vietnam. Mohamed bin Zayed Species Conservation Fund — Grants in Support of Endangered and Critically Endangered Species

The Mohamed bin Zayed Species Conservation Fund makes grants to individuals, communities, and organizations for the conservation of threatened or poorly known animal, plant, and fungi species worldwide. The Fund uses the IUCN Red List as the primary guide to the conservation status of a given species, although documented variations for sub-species, distinct populations and subpopulations will be taken into account. Grants are up to US$25 thousand. Applications must be submitted in English. The Fund remains open to receiving online applications despite the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. Belgian Royal Academy for Overseas Sciences — Research Competition 2022

Each year, the Belgian Royal Academy for Overseas Sciences sponsors a competition to stimulate high-quality research regarding problems inherent in the developing world. The questions for 2022 request a study on monitoring droughts in semi-arid regions and a feasibility study on renewable energy sources for possible use on a large scale in developing countries. Marine Mammal Commission — Grants to Protect Marine Mammals 2022

The Marine Mammal Commission invites worldwide proposals on community-driven conservation approaches to eliminate, manage, or mitigate threats to marine mammals. The Commission supports projects on any subject in support of marine mammal conservation, protection, research, and management. All projects must include an outreach, communication, or engagement component that furthers marine mammal conservation or management efforts. Funding requests are limited to US$35 thousand. AirAsia Foundation — Improving Communities

The AirAsia Foundation makes grants to social enterprises with projects to empower communities, enable them to build sustainable livelihoods, tackle social problems, or protect the environment. Applicants must be registered and be based in ASEAN. NGOs looking to diversify funding sources through social enterprise are welcomed to submit an application. AirAsia’s priority is to support smaller social enterprises. Applications can be submitted anytime, but the review process may take up to 6 months. Link

Research Council of Norway — Funding for Research Stays in Norway

The Research Council of Norway funds researchers from other countries to carry out a research stay at a Norwegian research organization. Research stays can last up to 12 months. The support under this call applies across multiple activities, including climate change, sustainable energy, or ocean research. Leakey Foundation — Field School Scholarship

The Joan Cogswell Donner Field School Scholarship provides up to US$2 thousand towards field school tuition for students to support training in fieldwork related to human origins research. Applications for this scholarship have to be submitted by the field school director, not the scholarship recipient. Recipients must be enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program in a country where there are limited resources for academic development. The scholarship is awarded year-round.
