Global Biodiversity Information Facility — Data Papers on Freshwater Species

The Global Biodiversity Information Facility (GBIF) and the open-access Journal of Limnology announce a call for researchers to submit data papers about species that inhabit the world’s inland waters. To assist efforts to fill gaps in primary biodiversity data on freshwater species, GBIF will sponsor the article processing charges (normally €624) for the first sixteen manuscripts accepted by the Journal. Worldwide Universities Network — Research Development Fund

The WUN Research Development Fund (RDF) provides grants of up to £10 thousand for one year to foster research collaborations among academic staff (faculty) at WUN member universities. Applications are open to researchers from WUN member institutions. The RDF supports research projects that fall under the network’s principal research theme of sustainable development. The closing date is 24 October 2022. Alexander von Humboldt Foundation — Georg Forster Research Award

The Georg Forster Research Award supports the work of accomplished researchers who are expected to continue to develop research-based solutions to specific challenges facing transition and developing countries. Nominees must be nationals of a developing or transition country, excluding the People’s Republic of China and India. The award amount is €60 thousand. Additionally, award winners are invited to conduct a research project of their own choosing in Germany in close collaboration with a specialist colleague. To support the collaboration, the Foundation may grant additional funding of up to €25 thousand. Nominations for the Award must be submitted by an established academic employed by a university or research institution in Germany. The closing date for nominations is 31 October 2022. Find out more

German Academic Exchange Service — Bilateral Exchange for Postdoctoral Researchers

The German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) supports exchanges of scientists and academics from partner countries for bilateral research projects in Germany. Foreign academics and scientists with doctoral degrees who work at a university or research institute in EU countries, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Moldova, Russian Federation, Ukraine are eligible to apply. Participants receive monthly stipends of €2 thousand. The application deadline is 15 November 2022 (for a research stay starting from October 2023). More information

Soroptimist — Support to Women Achieve Educational Goals

The Live Your Dream Awards offers cash awards of US$1 thousand to US$10 thousand to help women who are the sole financial providers for their families cover tuition costs, purchase books, get transportation, or find reliable childcare. The applicant has to be enrolled in or accepted to a vocational/skills training program or an undergraduate degree program and reside in one of the following countries: Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Canada, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Guam, Japan, Korea, Mexico, Northern Mariana Islands, Palau, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Philippines, Puerto Rico, Taiwan, United States of America, Venezuela. American Association for the Advancement of University Women — International Fellowships 2023

The American Association for the Advancement of University Women (AAAUW) provides support for women pursuing full-time graduate or postdoctoral study in the USA who are not U.S. citizens or permanent residents. Preference is given to women who show prior commitment to the advancement of women and girls through civic, community, or professional work. Fellows represent all subject areas, including those important in the Terra Viva Grants Directory. Fellows receive between US$20 thousand and US$50 thousand to pursue their studies. Well Aware — Water Projects in East Africa

Well Aware aims to help local communities in East Africa find sustainable solutions to address water scarcity and contamination. Well Aware aims to support its water projects with integrated project planning; technical evaluation; project oversight; promotion of partnerships; community training in sanitation and hygiene; and community empowerment. At this time, Well Aware is only actively implementing water projects in Kenya and Tanzania. Applications can be submitted at any time; there is no deadline. About Well Aware

Charles Hayward Foundation — Livelihoods Support in Africa

The Charles Hayward Foundation funds charitable programs and projects that improve the livelihoods of disadvantaged communities in the Commonwealth countries of Africa. The Foundation accepts applications from UK charities. Projects should focus at the grassroots level with proven local partners. Categories for support include water and sanitation; capacity building in agriculture and income-generating activities; and health. Grants are up to £15 thousand. Applications for main grants are considered on a quarterly basis. There is no calendar deadline. Link

Caribbean Catastrophe Risk Insurance Facility — Small Grants Program

CCRIF finances small projects managed by non-governmental organizations (NGOs), community-based organizations (CBOs), charity organizations and/or mandated by National Disaster Coordinators in local communities in the Caribbean. Projects submitted for consideration should fall within the thematic areas of disaster risk management and climate change adaptation and range between US$5 to US$25 thousand. Proposals for small grants may be submitted anytime. About the small grants program
