The General Assembly of African Biosphere Reserves Network invites applications for fellowships to the GRÓ Land Restoration Training Program (GRÓ LRT). The program offers six months of training focused on land restoration and sustainable land management, hosted at the Agricultural University of Iceland. The Fellowship covers tuition and other academic expenses for the fellows, travel and health insurance costs, and a stipend that covers all their living expenses. UNESCO — Youth Innovation Contest
The UNESCO Institute for Information Technologies in Education (UNESCO IITE) invites children and young people from Belarus, India, Iran, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Pakistan, Russia, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan to take part in the 2024 Youth Innovation Contest. Participants can submit creative works that reflect their vision of a more sustainable planet, using any format (painting, story, poem, or a research essay). The contest is open to two age groups: Children’s Group (5-10 years old) and Youth Group (11-17 years old). Participants are encouraged to create works focusing on the Protection of Marine Ecosystems, Conservation of Terrestrial Ecosystems, Responding to Global Climate Change, and Building Sustainable Human Settlements. Nigeria Energy Forum — Africa Energy Innovation Competition 2024
NEF invites applications for the Africa Energy Ideas Competition which aims to accelerate the development of early-stage energy firms across Africa. The competition is open to early-stage energy entrepreneurs from Africa to collaborate with local research institutions or industries. Young professionals between the ages of 18 and 35 years from Africa are invited to participate and nominate a relevant local research institution or organization. Winners will pitch their proposed prototype model at the 2024 Nigeria Energy Forum, in Lagos (Nigeria) and a cash prize of up to $10 thousand. DocA provides financial support for the development, production, post-production, and impact production of documentary films to filmmakers and producers from the African continent. DocA makes grants valued at US$5,000. Echoing Green helps emerging social entrepreneurs around the world with grants of seed capital and technical assistance to support their start-up organizations. The AXA Research Fund supports research to help understand risk management and prevention, including risks related to natural disasters and climate change. The Earth Journalism Network (EJN) makes reporting grants to Indigenous and tribal journalists globally to support the production of investigative reporting on environmental and climate issues. EJN expects to award up to 5-6 grants of up to US$3,000 each. Applicants must self-identify as Indigenous or belonging to a tribe and will be asked to provide details on their Indigenous or tribal affiliations in the application. Boston University: West African Research Association — Travel Grants for West African Nationals
The WARC Travel Grant supports African scholars and graduate students for research visits to other institutions on the continent. Travel grant funds may be used to attend and present papers at academic conferences relevant to the applicant’s field of research; visit libraries or archives in support of the applicant’s current academic work; engage in collaborative work with colleagues at another institution; and travel to a research site. The grant provides travel costs up to US$1,500 and a stipend of US$1,500. The program is open to West African nationals, with preference given to those affiliated with West African colleges, universities, and research institutions. The Morris Animal Foundation supports research that advances the health and welfare of reptiles and amphibians. The Foundation invites proposals in three categories: Established Investigator, First Award, & Pilot Study Awards. The maximum duration of an Established Investigator award is 36 months. There is no limit to the budget request, however, the average award is expected to be US$100 thousand. The maximum duration of a Pilot Study award is 12 months, and the total budget cannot exceed $20,000.
