Canada Fund for Local Initiatives — Community Projects in Sri Lanka

The Canada Fund for Local Initiatives (CFLI) invites proposals that meet the needs of local communities in Sri Lanka. CFLI provides funding to projects that focus on environment and climate action, as well as on water and/or plastic waste management. The average contribution is C$30 thousand to C$50 thousand per project. Eligibility extends to not-for-profit local, national, or community-based organizations. United Nations Global Marketplace — Climate Finance Transparency

The United Nations Global Marketplace (UNGM) launches the development and delivery of a Climate Finance Transparency Program. Partners are expected to provide capacity building to developing countries on climate finance transparency so that they can use what they have learnt to advance the implementation of their climate policies and actions. Financing for this activity ranges from US$40 thousand to US$60 thousand. Eligibility extends to non-profit organizations, intergovernmental organizations, for-profit entities, as well as academic and research institutions. The application deadline is 23 December 2024. Roger Williams Park Zoo — Danforth Conservation Grants

The Sophie Danforth Conservation Biology Fund makes grants of up to US$1 thousand to protect threatened wildlife and habitats worldwide. Priority is for projects that demonstrate a multi-disciplinary approach to ecosystem conservation, and that involve in-country collaborators. Projects must directly affect biological conservation. Applicants can be of any nationality but must be associated with an organization (non-profit, university, etc.) through which they can receive funding. The application deadline is 01 January 2025. Obama Foundation — Leaders Program

The Obama Foundation Leaders Program is a one-year training program for leaders who have demonstrated a commitment to finding solutions to challenges in their communities or countries. Scholars attend courses and participate in leadership development training. Participants receive a furnished studio apartment during their stay, a monthly stipend to assist with living expenses, as well as travel and tuition fees paid. The program is open to applicants from all around the world. Applications for the 2025-2026 program have to be submitted until 05 January 2025. Applicant information

International Center for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology — Collaborative Research Grants 2025

The ICGEB Research Grants support projects in agricultural biotechnology, basic life sciences, bioenergy, and many other fields. The grants are intended to facilitate the creation of research facilities in promising institutes; to promote training of young scientists; and to develop new research programs in participating countries. The program is open to applicants who have positions at universities and research institutes in ICGEB’s member states. Grants are a maximum of €25 thousand per year for projects of up to 36 months. Silicon Valley Global Ventures is an investment, technology and advisory firm that invests in companies that go through their accelerator program. The THRIVE Academy supports idea stage and pre-seed stage startups in the agri-food tech sector. The 12-week accelerator program helps startups and researchers looking to commercialize their innovations. The application deadline is 15 January 2025. THRIVE Academy

Cornell University — Structural Transformation of African Agriculture and Rural Spaces

The Structural Transformation of African Agriculture and Rural Spaces (STAARS) fellowship program announces its annual call for research proposals. STAARS Fellows will be paired with researcher mentors from Cornell University or the World Bank with whom they will jointly author a paper on a topic of mutual interest relating to structural transformation in Africa south of the Sahara. The call is open to early career researchers, either Ph.D. students in their final year prior to degree completion. The selected applicants will receive funds to cover travel and participation in a three-week mentorship program. The deadline to submit a research proposal is 17 January 2025. Cultural Survival — Indigenous Community Media Fund

The Indigenous Community Media Fund provides opportunities for Indigenous community radio stations and media outlets to strengthen their broadcast infrastructure and systems.  Indigenous community radio stations can apply for a grant of up to US$8 thousand. Radio networks represented by at least three or more Indigenous radio stations can apply for funding of up to US$12 thousand. Proposed projects must be completed within a period of 6 to 10 months. Indigenous communities in Latin America, the Caribbean, Africa, India, Philippines, Indonesia, Nepal, Bangladesh, Vietnam, Malaysia, Thailand are eligible to apply. Global Water Intelligence — Global Water Awards 2025

Nominations are open for the annual Global Water Awards 2025. Global Water Intelligence seeks technologies, plants, projects, and companies that make significant contributions to the development of the water sector. Focus areas include water or wastewater treatment, water conservation and management, ecologically sustainable industry technologies, and commercial solutions, among others.
