The France Libertés Foundation (France-Libertés Fondation Danielle Mitterrand) was established in 1986 by Danielle Mitterrand (First Lady of France, 1981-1995). The Foundation’s objective is to advance the cause of human rights in an international framework.
In addition to communicating positions on issues through the media and public forums, the Foundation financially supports projects in developing countries. Thematic areas for its grants are: Water; Peoples’ Rights; and Waste and Citizenry.
Grant Programs for Agriculture, Energy, Environment, Natural Resources
Support for community field projects. The interests of the Foundation include the following:
- Community access to adequate supplies of potable water (as a human right);
- Environmentally and socially sustainable enterprises in agriculture and natural resources at the community level (medicinal plants, bamboo, livestock, biofuels, etc.);
- Battling bio-piracy that negatively affects indigenous populations;
- Waste management and recycling.
Most grant recipients are NGOs, community organizations, and civil society associations in the countries where the Foundation’s projects are implemented. Some projects have French participation.
Grants generally range from €3 thousand to €50 thousand.
