Ecologia aims to build global connections that create civil society and support environmental, social, and economic sustainability.
In support of these objectives, Ecologia established The Virtual Foundation as a project to help grassroots initiatives obtain grants.
The Foundation is “virtual” because it does not directly provide funding. Rather, it raises financial contributions over the internet, and it steers this funding towards project implementers in the developing countries.
Grant Programs for Agriculture, Energy, Environment, Natural Resources
The Virtual Foundation. The Virtual Foundation works with partner organizations (consortium members) in the Foundation’s network. Each local partner is a grant-making organization in its own country or region. These partners provide the on-the-ground link between the Foundation and the NGOs that implement the projects.
Grants range across the following thematic areas (among others):
- Biodiversity;
- Environmental education;
- Conservation;
- Habitat restoration and environmental clean-up;
- Environmental monitoring;
- Community building and public participation;
- Sustainable development and poverty alleviation (includes agriculture, energy, and natural resources).
Most grant recipients are NGOs and community-based organizations in the developing countries that are active in one or more areas of sustainable development. A few grant recipients are small charitable groups and individuals in the USA who are active internationally.
About the program
APPLICATION: Important note – The Foundation no longer maintains a network of projects in a variety of countries looking for support due to lack of manpower. (At the time of this update the Foundation no longer accepts unsolicited proposals.)
