Uganda Martyrs University in conjunction with African Center for Agro-Ecology and Livelihood Systems (ACALISE) invites applications for PhD and MSc ACALISE National/International Scholarships. Programmes include PhD in Agro-Ecology and Livelihood Systems, MSc in Agro-Ecology, and others. Applicants must be citizens of a country in Sub-Saharan Africa who are currently enrolled on any of the ACALISE Programmes. Climate Smart Nigeria, in partnership with Enercate Initiative launches an annual contest in commemoration of the World Earth Day. Young environmental enthusiasts from Africa are invited to submit projects and ideas towards ending plastic pollution. The winner will receive NGN 20 thousand to put his or her project into practice. The AJSPI, in partnership with the BNP Paribas Foundation, launches its first climate investigation grant for European science journalists. The purpose of this grant is to encourage ambitious field investigations focused on understanding climate, adaptation to climate change, and different mitigation strategies. Eligibility extends to professional journalists (print, radio, TV, web), and members of a national association of science journalists, based in Europe. U.S. Department of State — YSEALI Academic Fellows
The Young Southeast Asian Leaders Initiative (YSEALI) is a program of the U.S. government to support bright young leaders ages 18-35 in the ASEAN countries. The YSEALI Academic Fellowships offer support to participate in a five-week institute on the campus of a U.S. university or college in one of the following topics: civil engagement; environmental issues; or social entrepreneurship and economic development. The fellowships include leadership development, an educational study tour, local community service activities, and opportunities to engage with peers in the USA. Applications are invited from current undergraduate or graduate students — as well as recent graduates — in Brunei, Burma, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam. Application deadlines vary by country, Cambodia’s application process is currently open with deadline on 29 May 2018. The Antipode Foundation promotes scientific research, education and makes scholarships in the field of radical geography. The International Workshop Awards are intended to support geographers holding events (including conferences, workshops, seminars, summer schools and action research meetings) that further analyses of geographical issues and engender the development of a new and better society. Successful candidates receive up to £10 thousand (or its equivalent in the awardee’s currency of choice). 3ie — Bursaries for attending EVIDENCE 2018
The AEN secretariat and 3ie offer bursaries to Africans for attending the EVIDENCE 2018 Conference in South Africa. The 2018 conference programme will focus on four areas of priority in Africa, including one on climate resilience. Applicants are required to submit an indication of how they intent to map out the evidence ecosystems in their respective countries, sectors, or areas of work. Applicants can either apply for a full bursary which covers the cost of conference registration, air travel, and accommodation, or a partial bursary which is a waiver of the conference registration fee only. The Barcelona Zoo Foundation provides grants and financial aid to research and conservation projects focussing on animal wellbeing and knowledge of species in their environment; applied conservation techniques, both in situ and ex situ, at a global level; and Mediterranean biodiversity. Eligibility extends to individuals and non-profit organizations. Projects may be submitted in English, Spanish, or Catalan. GHR Foundation — BridgeBuilder Competition
The GHR Foundation invites proposals that address urgent global challenges in radically new ways. The BridgeBuilder Challenge to invite solutions that connect peace, prosperity, and the planet. Submissions should target a specific, pressing, and solvable need across two or more of these themes. The competition is open to non-profit and for-profit organizations established for at least one year. Proposed projects should not be longer than three years. Awards are up to US$500 thousand.
