Research organisations are invited to submit proposals for the Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) Research Awards. West African Science Service Center on Climate Change and Adapted Land Use — WORKSHOP: Estimating changes in water availability in West Africa (extended deadline)
The University of Bonn (Germany) and the West African Science Service Center on Climate Change and Adapted Land Use (WASCAL) call for participation and abstracts for the COAST workshop (studying changes of sea level and water storage for coastal regions in West-Africa, using satellite and terrestrial data sets) that will be held in Burkina Faso, 12-15 February 2018. Applications from West African doctoral and postdoctoral researchers with less than 10 years experience in academia are welcome. Fauna & Flora International, in partnership with the Conservation Leadership Program, sponsor the Global Trees Campaign to support master’s research focused on tree species conservation. Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations — Plant Genetic Resources for Food and Agriculture
The International Treaty on Plant Genetic Resources for Food and Agriculture aims to promote and support the conservation and sustainable use of plant genetic resources for food and agriculture. The goal is to enable farmers from developing countries around the world access to adapted varieties leading to increased productivity. The Benefit-sharing Fund funds single country projects (maximum funding/project: US$ 250 thousand) and multi-country projects (maximum funding/project: US$ 450 thousand) for up to 48 months. Eligible applicants include governmental and non-governmental organizations, research institutions, and regional and international organizations based in developing countries. European Commission — Master of Science in Food Security and Climate Change 2018-2020
The Master of Science in Food Security and Climate Change (MS FSCC) is a joint degree for students from Southeast Asia funded by the European Commission’s ERASMUS+ Capacity Building for Higher Education. Each MS FSCC student will be enrolled in two universities, be supervised jointly by professors from these universities, and have a joint thesis defense. The program “Wildlife Without Borders” includes a regional component for Central Africa. Funding in 2018 will focus on projects that impact wildlife populations in the following countries: Burundi, Cameroon, Chad, Central African Republic, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Equatorial Guinea, Gabon, Republic of Congo, Rwanda, and São Tomé and Príncipe. The National Geographic Society seeks proposals to reduce the illegal trade in wildlife and wildlife products. The call is open for proposals focused on marine and terrestrial species. Projects may be focused around conservation, education, research, storytelling, or technology. Preference will be given to applicants who are residents or citizens of the relevant regions for the consumption of or demand for illegal wildlife products. American Academy for the Advancement of Science — Global Innovation through Science and Technology 2018
The program Global Innovation through Science and Technology (GIST) invites scientists, entrepreneurs, researchers, and innovators in 136 emerging countries to compete in the GIST Tech-I Competition 2018. The competition is open to everyone between the ages of 18 to 40 in any sector who has either an idea or a startup in the form of an invention, a product, a service, an app, any combination of these, or something entirely unique. Each participant in the competition submits an executive summary and a promotional video. The top 10 semi-finalists will advance to the Tech-I finals during the 2018 Global Entrepreneurship Congress in Istanbul, Turkey to showcase their ventures and receive intensive training. The US-Russia Social Expertise Exchange announces the launch of its recent project competition. Project ideas in the field of “Hands-on Learning in the Areas of Flora and Fauna” are welcome. This includes preservation of ecosystems and waterways, wildlife protection, and tech-based ecological stewardship. Teams composed of at least one US and one Russian organization or higher education institution are invited to propose innovative bilateral initiatives that benefit the people of both countries.
