Mission Innovation — Prize for Energy Innovations

Through its Champions Program, Mission Innovation seeks to recognize exceptional researchers and innovators who are developing new ways of making clean energy cheaper and more reliable by using it more efficiently. MI Champions will participate in the fourth MI ministerial (MI-4) meeting in Canada (May 2019). Participating developing countries to nominate a candidate are India, Mexico, Saudi Arabia, and China, among other developed countries. The deadline for registration is 10 September 2018. Details

UK Research Councils — Global Challenges Research Fund 2018

The Global Challenges Research Fund invites applications to grow research capability in the UK to meet the challenges faced by developing countries. Examples of thematic areas include sustainable agriculture; clean air, water, and sanitation; renewable energy and materials; addressing environmental shocks and long-term environmental changes; and others. Investigators may request up to £3 million over two years. Both UK and international research organisations (Universities, public laboratories, or nonprofit organisations) can be research partners and receive funds. International Development Research Center — Fight against Antimicrobial Resistance in Livestock

The IDRC seeks research proposals that develop innovative veterinary solutions focused on product development to reduce therapeutic and prevent non-therapeutic antimicrobial (AMR) use by farmers in developing countries. Proposals need to demonstrate how the project will involve women in the research team and that they have considered the potential environmental impacts of their activities. Budgets between CAN$ 1-3 million are accepted. To be eligible, at least one of the administering project institutions should be based in a low or middle-income country. Australian Agency for International Development — Development Assistance to Africa

The Direct Aid Program (DAP) supports poverty reduction through more equitable access to the benefits of inclusive and sustainable growth. The Direct Aid Program provides funding for an average of 30 projects per year from Zimbabwe, Zambia, Malawi, the Republic of Congo and the Democratic Republic of the Congo. DAP is available on a not-for-profit basis to individuals, community groups, NGOs and other entities engaged in development activities. The funding ceiling per project is AUD 60 thousand. British Council — Researcher Links Workshops, UK/Turkey

Researcher Links Workshops bring together early-career researchers from the UK and a partner country to make international connections that can improve the quality of their research. UK and Turkish Institutions can request up to £40 thousand to be used towards workshop implementation. All workshops must be held in 2019. Each proposal must have one Principal Applicant from the UK and one Principal Applicant from Turkey. The submission deadline is 17 September 2018. Link

British Council — UK-China PhD Placements

The UK-China Joint Research and Innovation Partnership Fund is a sponsorship opportunity for UK and Chinese PhD students and their supervisors to spend three to twelve months (for PhD students) and up to three months (for supervisors) at higher education institutions in China or the UK. The focus is on research areas that include food and water security, environmental technologies, and energy — among others. UK Natural Environment Research Council — Innovation Projects for Sustainable Development

The UK Natural Environment Research Council (NERC) calls for innovation projects that enable research outputs from Research Council-funded research to be taken further and developed into practical (non-commercial) application. Among others, NERC also welcomes projects that are aimed at improving economic growth and welfare in developing countries. The scheme invites proposals for awards up to a maximum of £155 thousand with a duration of up to 18 months. This call is open to current or past research council grant-holders. Safari Club International Foundation — Grants for Wildlife Conservation and Research 2019-2020

The SCI Foundation funds projects and direct wildlife programs dedicated to wildlife conservation, research, and outdoor education in Africa, Asia, and North America. Grants are up to US$50 thousand per year. The application deadline is 31 October 2018. Link

Asia Pacific Forum on Women, Law and Development — Media Fellowship Programme

APWLD invites female media professionals across Asia-Pacific region to participate in the inaugural media fellowship programme that aims to strengthen media advocacy on grassroots issues. The fellowship theme for this year is Climate Change. Proposed projects should focus on the feminist perspective of climate justice. Smogathon — Technology to Fight Air Pollution

Smogathon aims to fight air pollution through technology. Start-ups will compete for $15 thousand in cash and a contract to implement their innovation in Krakow, Poland. Smogathon welcomes participation from any group worldwide that works as a registered company, start-up, foundation, or research group with a legal entity.
