NERC and the UK’s Engineering & Physical Sciences Research Council invite applications from UK scientists to attend a workshop organised jointly with India’s Department of Science & Technology on the theme of improved water quality in India. The workshop will be held in Delhi (November 2016) to define the scope of a potential new interdisciplinary research programme by the two countries. Southeast Asian Regional Centre for Tropical Biology — Research Proposals 2017
The Southeast Asian Regional Centre for Tropical Biology (SEAMEO BIOTROP) welcomes research proposals in support of its program “Sustaining and Enhancing the Integrity and Productivity of Ecosystems in Southeast Asia.” The focal areas are ecological restoration, ecological protection and conservation, and ecological sustainability and productivity enhancement. Critical Ecosystem Partnership Fund — Conservation in the Solomon Islands and Vanuatu
The CEPF invites proposals for large and small grants (i.e., under US$20 thousand) to conserve biodiversity in the Solomon Islands and Vanuatu. The conservation priorities are stated in the announcement. Eligibility for funding extends to NGOs, community groups, universities, private enterprises, and other applicants from civil society. With funding from the U.S. government, the Borlaug Higher Education Agricultural Research and Development (BHEARD) Program supports long-term training of agricultural and food security researchers and policy advisors at master’s and doctoral levels. The program currently includes scholarships for staff at selected agricultural and meteorological institutions in Mali to pursue graduate studies in meteorology. Additionally, the program is open to NGO personnel in the Mopti region who are working in subjects of environment and climate. Applications from women candidates are particularly encouraged. France’s IRD is a partner with the Ivory Coast’s Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research in a program of research (PReSeD-CI 2) on natural products, agriculture, energy and minerals, environmental governance, and other themes in support of sustainable development. Applications are welcome from from Ivory Coast, France, and researchers associated with CAMES (Conseil africain et malgache pour l’enseignement supérieur). The Society makes several categories of grants, including the Mewaldt-King grants for research in ornithology and avian biology by university graduate students of any nationality in any country. U.S. Agency for International Development — Climate Change in the Eastern and Southern Caribbean
USAID will fund projects in support of its broad objectives under its program for Eastern and Southern Caribbean Science, Technology, Innovations, and Partnerships. These objectives include one to reduce risks and adapt to the impacts of global climate change. The relevant countries in the program are Antigua and Barbuda, Barbados, Dominica, Grenada, Guyana, St. Kitts and Nevis, St. Lucia, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Suriname, and Trinidad and Tobago. France’s IRD invites short audiovisual presentations related to the topics of its research in the developing countries of the global South. Securing Water for Food — SWFF Grants, Round 4
The Securing Water for Food Grand Challenge for Development (SWFF) is a collaborative initiative among the U.S. Agency for International Development, the Swedish International Development Agency, the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the Government of South Africa. The current call for proposals focuses on improving water efficiency and reusing agricultural wastewater; effective water capture and storage systems for extending temporal availability of water supply; and management of salinity in water supplies. Awardees will receive between US$100 thousand and US$2 million in funding and acceleration support to bring their innovations to scale. The deadline for applications is 10 October 2016. Link
