MDPI — Sustainability Best Paper Award 2024

MDPI, a publisher of peer-reviewed, open-access journals invites applications for the Best Paper Award for research and review articles published in the journal in 2023. Two reviews and two research articles will receive an award each. The prize consists of CHF800. Applications have to be submitted by 28 February 2025. Details

MDPI — Carbon Neutrality Award

MDPI, a publisher of peer-reviewed, open-access journals invites applications for the Carbon Neutrality Award. This prize will be given to applicants who have made outstanding academic or societal contributions to carbon neutrality in general or to a carbon-neutrality-relevant issue in particular.  The winner will each be awarded CHF1500. AJA Foundation — Water Grants

AJA Foundation supports projects that provide access to clean water. AJA Foundation has a particular commitment to providing renewable clean water in rural African villages. There is no geographical restriction on where projects might be located. Funding ranges from US$2500 to US$500 thousand. The Foundation accepts LOIs on a rolling basis. Details here

Fund for Innovation in Development — Grant Program

The Fund for Innovation in Development (FID) supports innovation that contributes to reducing global poverty and inequality. FID encourages applications for solutions in education, health, climate change, and gender equality in all low- and middle-income countries. Nearly any type of applicant is eligible to apply, including researchers, governments, NGOs, and for-profit companies. FID makes five types of grants: Prepare Grants (up to €50 thousand) can be used to support the development of projects and proposals; Pilot Grants (up to €200 thousand) support the piloting of innovations that are early in development and need real-world testing; Scale Grants (up to €1,5 million) support the further testing and continued growth of innovations; Transition to Scale Grants (up to €4 million) support the transition of rigorously tested and validated solutions to widespread scaling; and Transforming Public Policy Grants (up to €150 thousand) support specific evidence-based innovations with demonstrated cost-effectiveness and scalability into public policies. Turing Foundation — Grants for Marine Ecosystems and Sustainable Land Use

The Foundation’s interests include marine ecosystems and protected areas, along with projects promoting sustainable agriculture and land use. Projects in marine conservation focus heavily on the Asia-Pacific Coral Triangle, but also include marine protected areas in Sub-Saharan Africa. The Foundation’s funding for sustainable land use is oriented mainly towards West Africa. Most grants are to Dutch and international organizations that work with local partners. Turing does not accept unsolicited applications, but it invites brief project summaries. More information

Earth Journalism Network — Climate Resilience

The Earth Journalism Network (EJN) offers a training and grant opportunity for social media content producers in the Philippines. As part of this program, EJN will offer P108 thousand each to 10 social media content producers in the Philippines. Selected content producers will participate in a 4-day in-person training workshop on climate change and climate resilience and, with support from mentors, produce and disseminate four pieces of climate-related video content on social media platforms. EJN accepts applications from social media content producers who actively and frequently post short-form videos on TikTok, Facebook, YouTube, Instagram, X, or other leading social media platforms. Earth Journalism Network — Media Workshop: Net Zero in Africa

The Earth Journalism Network (EJN) hosts a virtual media workshop for journalists from Africa interested in reporting on net zero. Applicants can be from any country in Africa; applicants from South Africa, Nigeria, Algeria, and Morocco are particularly encouraged to apply. Applications are open to journalists working in any medium (online, print, television, radio) and other expert media practitioners with professional reporting experience and a history of covering environmental and net zero issues. Lipman Family Prize — Funding for Social Change

Each year, the Lipman Family Prize awards cash to three social impact organizations – US$250 thousand for the winning organization and US$125 thousand for each of the two other honorees. The award recognizes and amplifies the work of organizations devoted to positive social impact and creating sustainable solutions to significant social and economic challenges. Past winners include projects in the field of improved sanitation, energy innovations, and micro-forestry. Wiki Loves Earth — Photography Competition Nigeria

Wiki Loves Earth is an international photography competition to promote natural heritage sites around the World through Wikimedia projects. In the fifth edition, photographers are invited to contribute free-licensed images of natural heritages in Nigeria. The best photos will receive prize money. Vegan Society — Grant Program

The Vegan Society supports projects encouraging non-vegans to go vegan and stay vegan. Projects should raise public awareness of veganism, promote veganism to non-vegans, and help people from marginalized backgrounds to access veganism. The typical award is no more than £1 thousand.
