UK Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council — Biotechnology for Industrial Waste in India
The governments of the UK and India are collaborating to co-sponsor the Newton Bhabba UK-India Industrial Waste Challenge 2017. Projects should address reducing industrial waste and pollution, and improve value recovery from waste using biotechnology in one or more of five defined industrial sectors. The total grant will not exceed £2 million per project for UK partners. The Government of India will provide match funding for Indian project partners. Either a business or a research organisation can lead the project in the UK. French Institute for Development Research — Support for International Research Teams 2017
The French Institute for Development Research (IRD) announces funding to support multidisciplinary international teams (laboratoires mixtes internationaux, LMI) to undertake research that corresponds to IRD’s thematic priorities. These priorities vary by geographical region to include food production and security; plant-health relationships; water resources; energy resources; ecosystems and biodiversity; natural risks; and others. FRIDA — Climate and Environmental Justice for Women
FRIDA announces a special grant round for young feminist and young women-led groups focused on climate and environmental justice in targeted regions and countries. Grants of up to US$5 thousand for one year (renewable) will be made to groups founded or led by young women or trans youth (under 30 years) that are committed to advancing and defending women’s rights from a feminist perspective; working towards climate and/or environmental justice; and that meet other defined criteria. Eligibility extends to women’s groups formed in the past few years (2011-2017) in specified countries and territories of the Pacific Islands; Asia; Sub-Saharan Africa; Latin America; and Georgia. Hogan Lovells — Community Solar Innovation Awards 2017
The 2017 Community Solar Innovation Awards will honor innovative enterprises that utilise solar energy to improve the lives of poor communities in the developing world. Hogan Lovells will make ten awards to businesses and non-profit organizations in developing countries which are locally-led and which use solar energy systems or solar innovations to significantly help the lives of women and girls. The winners will receive support services consisting of capacity building, pro bono legal support, publicity, and support in replicating the enterprises in other regions. Human Development Innovation Fund — Grassroots Projects in Tanzania
The Human Development Innovation Fund (HDIF) is funded by the UK government to create social impact in education, health and water, and sanitation and hygiene (WASH) across Tanzania. In Round 3, HDIF welcomes funding applications for pilot and scale-up projects between £500 thousand and £1 million for projects up to three years. Eligibility extends to non-state organizations such as for‐profit businesses; social enterprises; civil society organisations; public-private partnerships; NGOs; charities or societies; faith‐based organizations; community‐based organizations; academic institutions; and research institutes involved in solutions to improve services for the poor.
