International Council for Science — IRDR Young Scientists Program

The International Council for Science, in collaboration with several partner organizations, invites applications for the IRDR (Integrated Research on Disaster Risk) Young Scientists Program. The program offers scientists under age 40 of any nationality the opportunity to engage with a global network of professionals and practitioners. Benefits include international linkages and the possibility to be invited for additional training. Applicants need to be affiliated with an academic program (either master or doctorate), either as a student or as a young faculty. The closing date for applications is 10 December 2016. Link

KR Foundation — Reducing Fossil Fuels

The KR Foundation makes grants for environmental communications and advocacy, with a special focus on reducing investment and consumption of fossil fuels. The Foundation aims to persuade investors to divest from fossil fuel industries that deepen the climate crisis, and to invest instead in climate solutions. In parallel with divest-invest, the KR Foundation supports measures that eliminate subsidies for fossil fuels. Grants are to charitable nonprofit organizations. The amount of funding per project typically ranges from DKK 0.5 million to DKK 5 million for projects of up to approximately three years. The next deadline for letters of inquiry is 19 January 2017. International Association for Plant Taxonomy — Research in Plant Systematics

The IAPT announces the 2017 round of its competitive grants program in plant systematics, with emphasis on funding students and young investigators in developing countries, but open to applicants worldwide. The award should preferably be used for supporting travel to institutions, laboratory investigations, or fieldwork (if this includes interaction with in-country specialists). The maximum grant is US$1 thousand. The application deadline is 31 January 2017. Link

Fondation Nature & Decouvertes — Nature Protection in France and Africa 2017

Fondation Nature & Decouvertes supports projects for nature protection, environmental education, and public awareness in France.  Additionally, a few grants support projects with similar themes in Francophone Africa. The next application deadline for environmental education projects (funding of €8 thousand to €25 thousand) is 01 February 2017. Applications for small projects (“coup de main”) ranging from €500 to €3000 can be submitted at any time. Link

UK Newton Fund — Collaboration UK with Brazil on Urban Environments

With support by the Newton Fund, Innovate UK invites businesses to work with Brazilian partners on innovative urban development solutions in Brazil. Subject areas include management of urban water and sanitation, renewable energy, addressing natural disasters, and others. Projects must be led by a UK business, and must include at least one Brazilian partner. The deadline for registration is 26 April 2017. Link

HDH Wills Charitable Trust — Conservation of Wildlife and the Environment

The HDH Wills Trust offers grants to charities in England and Wales dedicated to the conservation of wildlife and the environment.  Grants from £2 thousand to £25 thousand (in some cases, up to £50 thousand) are available to charities registered with the Charity Commission of England and Wales, or which are exempt or excepted charities.  Past grants include several to UK organizations with conservation programs or projects in the developing world.  The closing date for applications is 31 October 2017.  Link

Smart Villages — Off-Grid Energy in West Africa

The Off-Grid Energy Challenge invites applications from early-stage energy entrepreneurs in West Africa who are running businesses that generate or can be powered by off-grid energy.  Businesses must have at least an existing prototype and business model to enter. The winners of the competition will receive free business, legal, and financial services and the chance to pitch for up to US$5 thousand in prize capital.  Up to three teams will be accepted into the programme. The deadline for applications (English, French, Portuguese) is 21 November 2016.  Link

Critical Ecosystem Partnership Fund — Biodiversity Conservation in Timor-Leste

In support of conservation in the Wallacea Biodiversity Hotspot, CEPF invites letters of inquiry from organizations wishing to work in or affect key biodiversity areas and species in Timor-Leste.  Eligibility for funding extends to NGOs, community groups, private enterprises, universities, and other civil society organizations. Typical grants are US$100 thousand for periods of 12 to 30 months, although CEPF will consider proposals up to US$300 thousand for exceptionally qualified applicants. The closing date for letters of inquiry is 13 December 2016. Link

Indo-US Science and Technology Forum — Bioenergy Awards

The IUSSTF’s program Bioenergy – Awards for Cutting Edge Research (B- ACER) aims to nurture contacts between students and scientists from India and the USA in frontline area of biofuels and bioenergy. Opportunities are available for Indian citizens to pursue internships and fellowships at reputed U.S. scientific/technological institutions or laboratories to undertake the research work.
