Future Food Asia invites nominations for the Future Food Asia Award 2024. The Future Food Asia Award aims to recognize the leading start-ups in the domain of AgriTech and FoodTech across Asia Pacific. The award is an opportunity to gain exposure to investors, corporations, industry leaders, mentors, and media. The grand prize winner will receive US$100 thousand in funding. The ICGEB Research Grants support projects in agricultural biotechnology, basic life sciences, bioenergy, and many other fields. The grants are intended to facilitate the creation of research facilities in promising institutes; to promote training of young scientists, and to develop new research programs in participating countries. The program is open to applicants who have positions at universities and research institutes in ICGEB’s member states. Grants are a maximum of €25 thousand per year for projects of up to 36 months. Cornell University invites applications from early-career African researchers to participate in the Structural Transformation of African Agriculture and Rural Spaces (STAARS) fellowship program. STAARS Fellows will be paired with mentors at Cornell University and prepare a paper on a topic of mutual interest relating to structural transformation in Africa south of the Sahara. The selected applicants will receive funds to cover travel and participation in a three-week mentorship program at Cornell University. The deadline to submit a research proposal is 19 January 2024. The Resilient Agriculture Innovations for Nature (RAIN) challenge aims to convert seed-level innovative agricultural ideas in East Africa and scale them to sustainable business ideas. RAIN seeks new innovative agricultural initiatives to provide customized support. Winners will be connected with potential funders, donors and investors. RAIN is open to non-profit organizations as well as farmers, and entrepreneurs in East Africa (Burundi, Ethiopia, Kenya, Rwanda, Tanzania, and Uganda). Applications are due on 30 January 2024. The Global AgriFood TechPreneur Program is a 12 months food system sustainability business development program for young graduates who wish to transform the food system, end hunger, malnutrition, obesity and food waste. Graduates are invited to submit an application about a food system challenge in their country and their solution to addressing it. Selected participants will be trained to develop a robust and sustainable business plan. Application for the competition is until 20 February 2024. AgriFood TechPreneur

The Tony Elumelu Foundation fosters and supports start-up enterprises in Africa. The TEF Entrepreneurship Program provides mentoring, training, forums, seed capital, and alumni support to individuals in Africa proposing new business ideas or early-stage companies in sectors that include agriculture, among others. Participants receive up to US$5 thousand in seed capital. The program is open to citizens and legal residents ages 18 and older in any African country. The Dissertation Doctorate Program for Agriculture and Natural Resources aims to contribute to the enhancement of agricultural research and development in Southeast Asia. The scholarship provides one slot annually for a three-year graduate program leading to a Dissertation Doctorate at Tokyo NODAI. The scholarship is open only to nationals of Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, Indonesia, Lao PDR, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Timor Leste and Vietnam. The ICGEB SMART Fellowship program provides fellowships to scientists in the early stage of their career wishing to spend between 3 and 9 months at a research institution in an ICGEB Member State other than their own. The stipend ranges from US$ 800 to US$1,500 per month. SMART Fellowships are intended to promote collaboration among researchers. Applications are welcome in any area of the Life Sciences. The Latin America Regional Fund for Agricultural Technology Fondo Regional de Tecnología Agropecuaria (FONTAGRO) calls for innovations for the sustainable increase of agricultural productivity in Latin America and the Caribbean in the context of climate change. FONTAGRO member countries are Argentina, Bolivia, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, Honduras, Nicaragua, Panamá, Paraguay, Peru, Spain, Uruguay, and Venezuela. Proposals are accepted from multi-country consortia of public and private organizations at national, regional, and international levels. The THRIVE Academy supports idea stage and pre-seed stage startups in the agri-food tech sector.
