The UC Berkeley Graduate School of Journalism offers ten US$10 thousand postgraduate Food and Farming Journalism Fellowships. The fellowship is aimed at early and mid-career journalists who cover print and audio stories under the rubric of food systems: agricultural policy, food science, rural and urban farming, agriculture and the environment, food and climate change, etc. Preference is given to U.S. focused stories, but UC Berkeley will also consider international stories with a strong U.S. angle or connection. The NTU-SEARCA Joint Scholarship Program for Global Agriculture Technology and Genomic Science (Global ATGS) accepts applications for a Master Program at the National Taiwan University (NTU). The goal of Global ATGS is to train international academic and industrial leaders in advanced agriculture. The main fields of this program are digital agriculture, genomics, and modern breeding science. The scholarship award duration is two years and covers tuition fees, travel, and living expenses of students from SEAMEO member countries. The deadline is 31 December 2021. Link

The Governments of India and the Philippines invite joint research projects by researchers of both countries. The aim is to encourage scientific and technological cooperation between the two countries. Proposals for joint research in agriculture are eligible. The fund will cover research expenses, exchange of visits for research projects, and workshops. The deadline for the submission of proposals is 17 January 2022. Find the call

The European Commission (EC) accepts proposals to improve food security and nutrition in African cities. Projects are expected to contribute to a shift to food security and improved nutrition in five African cities and reducing the food-system-related environmental footprint. Applicants must be established in a Member State of the European Union, countries associated with Horizon Europe, or low- and middle-income countries. The implementation of agro-ecological approaches will alleviate the pressure that agri-food production places on natural ecosystems, contributing to resilience of agri-food systems. The GrowUp Incubator supports early-stage entrepreneurs  with innovative solutions that have the potential to create substantial environmental and social impact. The 2022 cohort of GrowUp Incubator addresses sustainable food systems in East Africa to enable sustainable agricultural production and support sustainable practices along the whole food value chain and to mitigate climate change and build resilient communities. Selected entrepreneurs receive tailored mentorship, interactive capacity building workshops and networking opportunities with local partners. Eligibility extends to social business entrepreneurs in Kenya, Ethiopia, Rwanda, Tanzania, Uganda, and Burundi. The call for applications closes 21 November 2021. GrowUp Incubator

The Earth Journalism Network (EJN) offers scholarships to support the production of in-depth reports that report on illegal, unreported, and unregulated fishing in Ecuador. Only entries in Spanish from Ecuadorian journalists will be accepted. Nominations are open to journalists working in any medium (online, print, television, radio) and to other specialized media professionals with experience in investigative reporting and a history of coverage of environmental issues. The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) seeks applications for a cooperative agreement to implement the USAID Feed The Future (Promoting Innovative and Resilient Agriculture Market Systems) program in Mozambique. Feed The Future supports producers and small to medium sized enterprises in agriculture to increase their profitability using a market systems development approach, while increasing their resilience to climate change. USAID intends to provide approximately US$25.5 million in total USAID funding over a 5 year period. Eligibility for this RFA is not restricted. The Milken-Motsepe Prize in AgriTech is a global competition for innovative solutions to increase economic value to farmers, from seed to sale. Registration is free and open to anyone, with a US$1 million grand prize available for the winning team, and US$1 million in additional prizes. First, teams submit their design and business model. An independent panel of expert judges will select up to 25 teams to receive US$10 thousand each. In the finalist round, teams develop their prototypes and conduct field tests on small and medium-sized farms in Africa. To compete, agritech solutions have to be registered by 08 December 2021. The XV World Forestry Congress will be held in Seoul (South Korea) from 02-06 May 2022. The congress provides the unique opportunity for the global forestry community to consider the state and future of world forestry, particularly in the context of the recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic. Participants come from all over the world and from all sectors, for example, public and private sector, NGOs, CSOs, scientific or professional bodies, and forestry societies, as well as individuals interested in forests and the environment. WFC 2022 supports participation from low-income countries by providing financial assistance to those who would otherwise be unable to participate due to financial constraints.
