The U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) seeks applications for funding for the development of food security activities in Ethiopia. USAID plans to award up to four cooperative agreements with the goal to improve food security of vulnerable households in targeted communities, contributing to a sustained reduction in rural poverty. The Mountain Innovation Program aims to improve the lives of mountain communities and protecting mountain environments around the world. The current opportunity calls for projects that focus on techniques to leverage resources and increase the resilience of mountain communities through the enhancement of agriculture-food value in Guatemala, Rwanda, Papua New Guinea, Lesotho, and Nepal. Only entities working with local civil society organizations and/or community-based organizations in priority countries are eligible to apply. NWO (Netherlands) and the Department of Biotechnology (India) call for scientific collaboration between The Netherlands and India that focus on Climate Smart Agriculture. Research institutes and other collaborations of organizations (both public and private) can apply for funding of joint research projects. Projects should focus on interdisciplinary research in order to develop application-oriented solutions for adaptation of agriculture to climate change. Research funds do not to exceed US$4,500. SEARCA offers an optional 2-month internship. SEARCA prioritizes Southeast Asian nationals who are enrolled in PhD programs in a member university, however, the program is also open to applications who are regular staff members of government agencies or non-profit development-oriented institutions. Hivos, in collaboration with the Kenya Flower Council and the Uganda Flowers Exporters Association, seeks applications for the “Producer of the Year Award” (POYA) in horticulture. POYA is interested in organizations and farms that create better working conditions, and strengthen women worker rights and overall labor rights. The call is open to all horticultural farms in Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania, Rwanda, and Ethiopia. The winners will be honored during the International Flower Trade Expo (IFTEX), in Nairobi (June 2020). EIT Food seeks 3 organizations based in the Southern Europe (including Turkey) and 2 organizations based in the Eastern Europe to organize a capacity building program for women in agri-business. The aim of this program is to find innovative solutions that tackle the problems faced by women entrepreneurs, develop early-stage startups and create new female led agrifood businesses. The selected organization will receive funding of up to €21 thousand to cover the costs of the 3 startup events/workshops and additional activities. CLIFF-GRADS is a joint initiative of the CGIAR Research Program on Climate Change (CCAFS) low emissions agriculture flagship and the Global Research Alliance on Agricultural Greenhouse Gases (GRA). The program aims to build the capability of early career agricultural students in developing countries to conduct applied research on climate change mitigation in agriculture. CLIFF invites applications from PhD students from developing countries for short-term (4-6 month) scientific training and research stays at CGIAR research centers or affiliated research institutions. The focus of the research is greenhouse gas emissions and carbon sequestration associated with climate change mitigation in agriculture in developing countries. Grants are up to US$12 thousand. The AQUAEXCEL2020 project invites proposals from European research groups for scientific research that utilizes the aquaculture experimental facilities of any of their participating aquaculture research infrastructures. The transnational access program offers access to facilities and expertise not available in the applicants’ own country. Interested researchers can propose projects that involve visits to the chosen research infrastructure for periods of up to three months. Associated travel and subsistence expenses will be paid for. Annie’s Homegrown Sustainable Agriculture Scholarship Program is open to full-time undergraduate and graduate students studying at an accredited college or graduate school in the US. Students must be focusing their studies on sustainable and regenerative agriculture. International students may apply as long as they are studying at an eligible institution in the US.
