The Summer School “Transformative Changes in Agriculture and Food Systems”, jointly organized by the Southeast Asian Regional Center for Graduate Study and Research in Agriculture (SEARCA) and the Food Security Center (FSC) of the University of Hohenheim in Germany, will take place in Laguna, Philippines (9-27 September 2019). The FSC will offer up to 16 scholarships for PhD students from Africa, Asia, and Latin America to participate in the course. Through this call, the European Commission aims to support the development of coffee, tea and horticulture sectors in Tanzania. Priority areas include the improvement of small-scale farmers’ incomes, gender diversity in agriculture, and climate smart agriculture. The GSMA Innovation Fund for Digitisation of Agricultural Value Chains seeks digital solutions to improve smallholders’ financial inclusion, livelihood and climate resilience. Projects should be implemented in Sub-Saharan Africa or South Asia. Funding of up to £220 thousand per project is available, as well as mentoring, and project support. Projects under this call should focus on (1) Increasing investments in agriculture (including fish farming), (2) Facilitating the creation and strengthening of smallholder farmer and agribusiness associations, and (3) Generating employment opportunities, in particular for women and youth. The overall amount made available under this call is €26 million. The Global Facility for Disaster Reduction and Recovery (GFDRR) and partners seek innovators to design a tool that can support public finance decisions based on an integrated approach for the management of agriculture sector risks. The tool should help to prioritize investments in resilience and preparedness to reduce agriculture losses, poverty and food insecurity. All approaches should be scalable to regions or countries in Sub-Saharan Africa. The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) seeks applications for funding of an activity entitled “Agriculture Growing Rural Opportunities (AGRO) Activity in Ukraine”. The aim of this activity is to accelerate the economic development of rural Ukrainian communities and create profitable small and medium agricultural businesses. The Cooperative Agreement will grant a total amount up to $35 million over a 5-year period. Non-profit or for-profit non-governmental organizations (NGOs) are eligible to apply. The EQUAL Project – Colombia provides funding to one technical assistance project in Colombia to economically empower vulnerable women and girls within the agricultural sector.
