BBSRC announces a call for collaborative proposals to address research challenges relating to the sustainable intensification of agricultural systems in developing countries. The aim of this call is to enhance livelihoods through research to improve the productivity, sustainability, resilience and health of crops and/or farmed animals (including aquaculture). Proposals must be led by a Principal Investigator (PI) in the UK, but are expected to be co-designed and delivered with “in-country” researchers. The European Commission seeks applications to address drought resilience and sustainable livelihoods through promotion of climate resilient and nutrition sensitive agriculture interventions in Kenya. A total grant of € 4.5 million can be requested under this call. Eligibility extends to non-profit organizations from Europe of Africa. IFAD seeks proposals for grants to implement a project on “Advancing Technologies and Capacity Building for Climate-smart Aquaculture”. The IFAD will support adaptive research, technology transfer and piloting climate smart aquaculture technologies worldwide. Capacity building in technologies for national aquaculture research will be supported in the targeted countries Eritrea, Ethiopia and Egypt. The IFAD grant amount under this call is up to US$1 million. The recipient of this grant can be an inter-governmental organization, a non-profit organization, an university or a private sector entity. OFRF offers funding for research on organic farming and food systems and the dissemination of these research results to organic farmers and agricultural and research communities in the United States, Canada, and Mexico. Priorities are research on soil health; innovative weed control; issues of emerging insects and diseases; and livestock health. OFRF particularly encourages farmers, ranchers, graduate students, early-career researchers, veterans, and extension personnel to consider applying for funding. The program YES SCALE seeks technology-focused startups for catalyzing agri innovations in the areas of farm, food and supply chain technology. Selected startups receive a grant of up to US$30 thousand, plus mentoring and project support. Eligibility extends to Indian and globally based startups. The Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council (BBSRC) supports collaborative research proposals to address agriculture-nutrition-health challenges in the developing world. The purpose of this programme is to develop new strategies to address the challenges in food, nutrition and health by supporting collaborative research of scientists in the UK and partners in developing countries.The total budget should not exceed £2 million for two years. The program Boosting Agriculture and Food Security (BAFS) aims to reduce poverty and food insecurity in Sierra Leone through better governance and increased agricultural productivity and diversification. A maximum of three grants of €3 million will be awarded under this program. Eligibility extends to non-profit organizations established in a Member State of the European Union or in Sierra Leone. For non-Sierra Leonean applicants, co-applications with at least one Sierra Leonean non-profit making organisation will be an added advantage. The U.S. Department of State announces a funding opportunity for mapping and analysis of illegally harvested timber and forest products in global trade for developing countries. The aim of this call is to gather data and build capacity to identify, analyze, and map illegal timber and forest products trade in key regions for forest production and trade. USAID/Tanzania seeks applications for the program “Tanzania Improved Nutrition for Better Life”. The purpose of the program is to intensify and integrate nutrition support to targeted regions to improve the nutritional status of women, adolescents, and children in Tanzania. USAID intends to provide between US$15 – $19.7 million in total funding over a four year period for the achievement of the goals outlined in the call for proposals.
