The UK Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council (BBSRC), in collaboration with Mexican partners, announces a call for collaborative proposals on improving Mexican crop resilience to abiotic stress. Collaborative applications are invited from UK and Mexico-based researchers. Applicants may request up to a maximum of £533 thousand on the UK side and up to $5 million MXN on the Mexican side. The 2018 ASEAN-U.S. Science Prize for Women seeks to identify and recognize ASEAN-based, early to mid-career women who are using applied sciences to solve agricultural challenges. The top two finalists will be invited to compete in a pitch competition during an ASEAN Ministerial event in the Philippines in October 2018. The overall winner will receive $20 thousand. The 2018 Food Connection Challenge invites SMEs from the agri/food sector in Nigeria and Benin to submit their innovative ideas to reduce post-harvest losses. Participants will benefit from workshops, training sessions, and remote coaching to turn their ideas into a business plan. The winner will receive matching funding up to a maximum of €20 thousand. The Technical Centre for Agricultural and Rural Cooperation (CTA), with the support of the African Development Bank (AfDB) launches the Pitch AgriHack 2018. The theme for this year’s edition is “Women entrepreneurs innovate for agricultural transformation in Africa, the Caribbean and the Pacific”. The competition is open to both male and female founders and co-founders of e-agri startups offering digital services to the agricultural sector. Applicants must be aged between 18 to 35 years and need to be nationals and residents of African, Caribbean or Pacific countries. 50% of finalists will be women founders or co-founders of startups. USAID accepts applications for the Accelerating Women Entrepreneurs prize. The prize provides acceleration services including investment readiness consulting, investor matchmaking support, and business analysis to women entrepreneurs. Projects may be focussing on various thematic areas around the main topic agriculture, including aquaculture/livestock, pest management, irrigation and water, and postharvest among others. BASF seeks applications for its 2018 Newtrition® Asia Research grant program that aims to fund academics in the Asia-Pacific region to study nutritional topics that will advance research relevant to diet and health for consumers. JIRCAS provides fellowships to researchers in developing countries to collaborate with Japanese counterparts for research in agriculture, forestry, and fisheries. “Tsukuba” fellowships are carried out at the JIRCAS headquarters in Japan. “Project Site” fellowships are at research institutes in the developing countries where JIRCAS collaborative research projects are being implemented. Sida funds short-term training in selected development topics for participants from developing countries. The East Africa regional program includes a course in healthy livestock and safe food for applicants from Burundi, Kenya, Rwanda, Tanzania, and Uganda. Invited to participate are governmental departments and agencies, including universities, research institutes and laboratories, cooperatives and other interest groups as well as non-governmental organizations engaged in the sectors of animal health, food safety and antimicrobial resistance. DAAD offers scholarships for PhD and Master studies. The scholarships are intended for graduate and postgraduate students from South East Asia who want to pursue Master’s or PhD courses in sustainable agricultural and rural development in their home country (In-Country scholarships) or in another South East Asia country (In-Region scholarships). DAAD In-Country/In-Region scholarship holders are also encouraged to apply for a research grant in Germany for 2 up to 6 months.
