The CANSEA scientific platform is a network of research partners keen to implement agro-ecology and conservation agriculture in Southeast Asia. CANSEA announces its third call for proposals to promote and strengthen conservation agriculture in the four CANSEA member countries: Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, and Vietnam. Grants are up to US$40 thousand. CANSEA actively encourages co-funding. All recognized institutions in the CANSEA member countries are eligible to apply. The EC announces funding to strengthen Zimbabwe’s agricultural research, education, and extension services. The lead applicant must be a nonprofit organization established in Zimbabwe; in countries eligible under the European Development Fund; in a member state of the European Union; or a contracting party to the agreement on the European Economic Areas. USAID/Manila announces a 5-year program called “Fish Right” to enhance the sustainable use and resilience of coastal and marine resources that provide food, livelihoods, and coastal protection to communities in the Philippines. Fish Right will focus on marine key biodiversity areas, with special attention on “wild” or capture fisheries and the communities that depend on them. Eligibility for funding extends to NGOs in the USA and Philippines; for-profit NGOs willing to forego their fees; private voluntary organizations; universities; foundations; consortiums; and international organizations. The BecA-ILRI Hub is partnering with other organizations to sponsor two training workshops on writing scientific research papers, each followed by four days of training in science communication. The workshops are scheduled for November-December 2017. The major focus is on applicants conducting research in agricultural bio-sciences in Burundi, Cameroon, Central African Republic, Congo, Dem Rep Congo, Equatorial Guinea, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Gabon, Kenya, Madagascar, Rwanda, Sao Tome and Principe, Somalia, South Sudan, Sudan, and Uganda. Wageningen University, in collaboration with Uganda’s National Agricultural Research Organisation, seeks concept notes to strengthen seed sector development in Uganda, with a focus on vegetable seed. The fund will support four innovation projects, with a grant size €25 to €50 thousand, with an additional 50% matching contribution from the grantee. Applications are invited from domestic and foreign companies in the vegetable sector. Applying companies can partner with research institutes, universities, and NGOs. MEDA calls for proposals focusing on non-traditional finance to catalyze agricultural innovation by smallholder farmers in East Africa, the Andes region of South America, and South Asia. The call is open to private enterprises (including cooperatives and producer associations), financial institutions, finance-oriented organizations, research institutions, and NGOs. Applicants may be based in the target regions or outside the target regions, but project implementation must be in the target regions.
