In partnership with the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD), icipe announces research scholarships in the African Regional Postgraduate Programme in Insect Sciences (ARPPIS). The programme supports three-year doctoral research studies to prepare young researchers in Sub-Saharan Africa for internationally competitive research careers in insect and related sciences. Qualified female candidates, candidates from less privileged regions or groups, and candidates with disabilities are especially encouraged to apply. Qualified nationals of French- and Portuguese-speaking countries in Africa are also especially encouraged to apply. The European Commission seeks proposals to achieve sustainable and integrated management of protected areas, riparian territories and corridors of the complex formed by PoNaSi (Burkina Faso), Comoé (Côte d’Ivoire) and Mole (Ghana). The overall goal is to promote endogenous, sustainable and inclusive economic development that responds to the challenges of climate change. The UNCCD presents the “Land for Life” Award for inspiring efforts in land conservation and management. Eligibility is open to individuals and institutions worldwide that are making a significant and innovative contribution to reduce the impacts of land degradation and desertification. In particular, the focus is on helping communities at risk or forced to abandon their homes due to insecurity deriving from environmental degradation. Award winners will receive a support package from the UNCCD Secretariat to include networking with interested organizations; assistance to promote the winning initiatives nationally and internationally; and opportunities to showcase them at national and international events. The SWS Wetland Ambassadors Program is a student research program that provides graduate students with the opportunity to travel to another country and conduct wetland research. A grant of up to US$5 thousand will be awarded by SWS, while hosting institutions may provide for lab costs, meal plans, or room and board during the internship. The applicant must currently be enrolled in a M.S. or Ph.D. program related to wetland science (e.g. biology, environmental science, environmental engineering, etc.). The Award honors a young scientist who published a promising scientific paper in the thematic areas of wildlife veterinary science, conservation medicine, or zoo animal medicine. The PPPA project seeks to increase civil society engagement in environmental protection, and promote public participation in environmental decision-making. The Tropical Biology Association provides specialist courses in tropical biology.
