The Digital Energy Challenge supports the development of innovative solutions for energy access, the integration of renewable energy and public utility performance improvement. The 2023 Call for Projects targets projects based in Sub-Saharan Africa. Projects must have a core element of digital technology (telecom, computer, or cloud-based). The Challenge will award grant-based funding of €150 thousand to 5-8 start-up projects. The application deadline for project submission is 15 May 2023. Digital Energy Challenge

The CMCC Climate Change Communication Award aims to showcase and promote the most creative and impactful initiatives that increase public awareness and disseminate science-based information and data related to climate change. Eligible submissions must present projects, initiatives and tools that communicate climate change through various forms such as arts, theater, video, podcasts, music, photography, journalism, gaming, education, or the use of digital channels and tools. The winning project will receive a cash prize of €5,000. The Award is open to individuals, teams or organizations, regardless of nationality. Eligible submissions must be sent by 15 June 2023. The EU-ECOWAS Scholarship Program provides scholarships for masters’ degrees in the sustainable energy sector at specialized universities in West Africa (Cape Verde, Côte d’Ivoire, Ghana, Nigeria, Senegal, Togo). The program offers two types of scholarships: Mobile Scholarships and Stationary Scholarships. Applicants must be nationals of a member state of ECOWAS or Mauritania. The Global Sustainable Electricity Partnership comprises many of the world’s largest energy companies in partnership with international organizations, development banks, institutes, and foundations. The program sponsors ESED (Education for Sustainable Energy Development) to support outstanding students from developing countries to pursue masters-level studies directly related to sustainable energy. The support is US$10 thousand per year for up to two years. Applications are invited from any developing country on the list of ODA recipients. The next application deadline is 07 April 2023. The YouthLeadG20 Fellowship Program is a virtual forum for young changemakers to share their opinion around the possibilities of India’s G20 Presidency and youth-related focus areas, including Climate Change and Disaster Risk Reduction, among others. Selected fellows will be promoted to YouthLeadG20 ambassador in their countries, certification and direct consideration for similar opportunities. The Siemenpuu Foundation promotes the systemic transition towards sustainability, meaning the dismantling of fossil and otherwise unsustainable modes of production, distribution and consumption of energy. Siemenpuu aims to support work that advocates just and environmentally sustainable energy systems, and promotes community-based renewable energy for marginalized rural communities. Grant size averages €35 thousand to €80 thousand. Local, registered Civil Society Organizations in Mali are eligible to apply. Concept papers have to be submitted by 12 February 2023. The Earth Journalism Network (EJN) offers support for the production of in-depth reports on India’s progress towards a Net Zero economy through a Just Energy Transition. The Earth Journalism Network aims to support the production of reports that raise awareness and drive conversations among communities and policymakers at local, national and regional levels. EJN will provide a grant of up to Rs 90 thousand per report. Applicants based in India are eligible. The deadline for applications is 20 February 2023. Pathways to Net Zero India

The Earth Journalism Network (EJN) offers reporting grants to journalists in South Africa to support the production of in-depth stories on South Africa’s Road to Net Zero greenhouse gas emissions. The Earth Journalism Network aims to support the production of stories that raise awareness about South Africa’s net zero target and drive conversation among communities and policy makers at the local, national, and regional level. EJN expects to award five story grants with an average budget of €1,000. Journalists interested in covering the transition to Net Zero are invited to apply. The Government of India and the European Union seek applications for collaborative research & innovation projects carried out by consortia of organizations working together on research & innovation in areas of AI, electric energy storage solutions; zero emission vehicles; and biofuels. Any legal entity/organization (public or private research institute/university) established in India or the European Union with expertise in relevant and distinct disciplines is eligible to apply. Eligibility extends to countries associated with Horizon Europe. Projects will be funded for up to 3 years. The application deadline is 26 March 2023. India-EU Joint Call for Proposal

GSMA Innovation Fund for Anticipatory Humanitarian Action seeks to help accelerate the testing, adoption and scalability of digital innovations that leverage mobile digital technology to help anticipate potential humanitarian impacts and enable effective early response. Successful projects will receive an equity-free grant of between £100 thousand and £250 thousand to scale their innovation over a 15 to 18 month period.
