The ASEAN Centre for Energy (ACE) announces the ASEAN Energy Youth Awards (AEYA) in recognition of young students’ valuable contribution to sustainable development and energy transition. The theme of the 3rd award is “Accelerating Energy Transition towards Economic Recovery and Sustainable Growth.” The winners and runners-up will be invited to the 40th of ASEAN Ministers on Energy Meeting in September 2022 and receive small cash prizes. InnoEnergy seeks businesses with innovative ideas and technologies in sustainable energy. InnoEnergy invests in European businesses (including Eastern Europe) and helps develop innovative products, services, and solutions that have high commercial potential. The Modern Cooking Facility for Africa (MCFA) is a financing program supporting scale-up of clean cooking solutions in six Sub-Saharan African countries. MCFA offers results-based financing for clean cooking companies to grow and scale up their businesses in following countries: the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Kenya, Mozambique, Tanzania, Zambia and Zimbabwe. Energias de Portugal (EDP) supports sustainable and clean energy projects in remote rural areas. The 4th edition of the EDP Energy Access Fund supports clean energy projects in Angola, Malawi, Mozambique, Nigeria, and Rwanda. Projects are expected to relieve energy poverty across one or more of five focus areas, including water and agriculture (boreholes, water pumping and crop irrigation). Projects may apply for support between €50 thousand and €150 thousand. Eligibility extends to non-profit and for-profit entities. Individuals or groups are not eligible. The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) seeks applications for a cooperative agreement to implement the Just and Secure Energy Transition (J-SET) activity. J-SET supports utilities, regulatory agencies, and energy sector stakeholders in the Europe and Eurasia region in progressing through the clean energy transition. USAID intends to provide US$20 million in total funding over a five year period. USAID welcomes applications from non-profit as well as for-profit organizations. The International Development Research Centre (IDRC) announces a call for concept notes under the Climate Adaptation and Resilience (CLARE) initiative. CLARE supports research to enable socially inclusive and sustainable action to build resilience to climate change and natural hazards across Africa and Asia-Pacific. There are two sizes of funding available. Smaller projects for grants up to C$1.5 million, and larger projects for grants between C$6-8 million. This funding opportunity is open to transdisciplinary research teams working in eligible countries in Africa and Asia-Pacific. The application deadline is 07 June 2022. Link to CLARE

The Regional Universities Forum for Capacity Building in Agriculture (RUFORUM) invites applications for innovation research proposals on artificial intelligence innovations from eligible researchers universities and academic research institutions in Africa. RUFORUM seeks to select research proposals that deploy responsible AI for climate action with demonstrated relevance to livelihoods of vulnerable communities. Research budgets with a range between US$50 thousand to US$60 thousand and duration of up to 18 months will be considered. The deadline for submission is 30 June 2022. Details

The U.S. Department of State announces an open competition for organizations to submit applications to carry out the “Inclusive Action for Climate Change” program to promote gender equity in climate policymaking and programs in South Asia. The project will assist women-led organizations to advocate for and achieve gender equity and equality in climate change adaptation efforts, including in emergency preparedness and recovery from climate-related disasters. Awards may range to a maximum of US$1.48 million. Eligible applicants are U.S. and foreign non-profit organizations, including think tanks and civil society organizations, and educational institutions. Mitsubishi Corporation and NYK Line seek startups for a startup bootcamp with focus on the clean energy transition and sustainability through decarbonization. The program aims to scout and support promising startups with disruptive technologies and business ideas to solve problems in the energy and resource sectors. During the 3-month accelerator program, selected startups receive hands-on mentorship, seed funding and access to a global network of investors with the ultimate goal of scaling their businesses. The Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) launches the Climate Innovation Fund to award innovative ideas that will help improve the conservation and sustainable use of natural resources in Ethiopia. Projects should increase the sustainable use of natural resources, create job opportunities through the use of biodiversity, and help restore degraded landscapes. GIZ will contribute up to €50 thousand worth of investments. GIZ invites start-ups and small businesses in the sectors of technology (app developers), food production, cosmetics, pharmaceutical and timber to apply.
