UNIDO seeks readily deployable and scalable solutions to address the adverse effects of climate change and ultimately contribute to inclusive and sustainable economic development. Priority will be given to applications with solutions for: decarbonizing growing urban environments, generating and distributing clean energy, recycling for more climate-cautious consumption, and innovative solutions for sustainable land management. The call is addressed to private sector entities (micro, small, medium, and large companies & startups). Twelve winners will have the opportunity to present their innovative solution to a large audience during the Global Call award ceremony and will benefit from promotional and networking support. TotalEnergies, Enea Consulting and Sustainable Energy for All (SEforALL) launch the Energy Access Booster 2021 – a call for projects to support entrepreneurs in the field of energy access in Africa and Asia focusing on sustainable mobility. IEEE Empower a Billion Lives is a global competition aimed at fostering innovation to develop solutions to electricity access. Solutions are expected to be scalable, innovative and sustainable. The competition is open to student groups, companies, research institutions, and non-profit organizations. Winners of the regional round will be provided enough funding to complete a 2-month long field pilot. Global final winners will receive up to $1 million in prize monies. Teams must present their solution concept and a three-minute pitch video until 31 October 2021. Link

Climate Tracker seeks early-career journalists with a passion for a 6-month paid media mentorship-fellowship. Selected fellows will write and publish powerful sustainability stories focused on local solutions in their country/region, and receive coaching and mentoring from experts to gain hands-on experience in reporting on climate change and sustainability issues. Fellows receive €165 monthly stipend in support of their stories. The deadline to apply is 30 June 2021. More here

EIT Climate-KIC invites partners and collaborators, e.g. civil society organizations, municipalities, research institutions and private actors, to experiment with novel educational and learning methodologies to inspire their communities’ climate mindset. The overall goal is to enable a just, resilient and prosperous transition to a net zero carbon economy that supports both planetary and human health. EIT Climate-KIC will fund up to 5 experiments with up to €12 thousand in EU Member States, Horizon Europe Associated Countries (Montenegro, Republic of North Macedonia, Serbia, Turkey, Ukraine) and Outermost Regions. FameLab Climate Change Communicators is a global online competition and training event to build trust in climate science. The British Council invites aspiring climate change communicators to submit a video giving a three-minute talk in English related to the theme of ‘Trust in Climate Science’. All finalists will take part in a two-day online masterclass delivered by leading science communication trainers. The competition is open to entries from individuals based in: Albania, Azerbaijan, Bangladesh, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Botswana, Brazil, China, Colombia, Ethiopia, India, Indonesia, Jordan, Kazakhstan, Mexico, Nepal, Pakistan, Peru, Philippines, Serbia, Turkey, Uganda, and Vietnam. The European Commission launches the design phase of the New European Bauhaus (NEB) initiative. EIT Climate-KIC calls for climate innovation in public space through citizen engagement. Projects should mobilize citizen-driven initiatives and ideas all across-Europe and bring together cities, regions and social engagement innovators to empower civil society and drive climate action. EIT Climate-KIC will select three proposals and will grant a maximum of €30 thousand per proposal to develop a public space co-design activity in a city or region with civil society leadership. Enel Green Power seeks new tools and techniques aimed at improving the environmental sustainability and biodiversity preservation of its renewable installations. Participants should propose innovative strategies and models to preserve local flora and fauna, to be complementary with the initiatives already in place in Enel’s current energy plants. Enel will make one award of US$15 thousand to the best submission. In case of multiple awarded solutions, there will be at least one submission receiving an award no smaller than US$5,000 thousand, while the others will receive US$2,500.
