The Belmont Forum calls for collaborative research action on the theme: Towards Sustainability of Soils and Groundwater for Society. Research projects may address any terrestrial ecosystems, which are facing ongoing or predicted future degradation of their soil or groundwater systems. Please note that this call does not focus on agricultural soil management or the restoration of degraded ecosystems and their biodiversity. Participating countries are Brazil, China, France, Italy, Japan, Qatar, Russia, Saudi Arabia, and the United States. The deadline for registration to participate in this call is 23 July 2020. The Australasia Riverprize invites applications from any organization or partnership who has achieved remarkable outcomes for rivers, river basins and their communities. The winner will receive the cash prize and trophy. Organizations, or groups of organizations, responsible for their river and involved in river management, restoration and/or protection can enter the competition. Australia’s International Water Center provides funding for international students from the Indo-Pacific region. Scholarship recipients can to undertake full time undergraduate or postgraduate studies in Master of Integrated Water Management or Master of Catchment Science at participating Australian universities. Australia Awards alumni are expected to leave Australia after completing their scholarship and contribute to the development of their home countries. The application deadline is 30 April 2020. TRANSFORM offers support to water utilities in Sub-Saharan Africa with innovative ideas and WASH solutions that meet the sanitation needs of underserved consumers in urban areas. Two successful projects will receive up to £250 thousand in funding, in addition to in-kind support over a 12-18 month period. Joint applications from NGOs, academics, consultants, and funders based in Ethiopia, Ghana, Kenya, Malawi, Mozambique, Nigeria, Rwanda, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia, and Zimbabwe are encouraged. Sida funds short-term training in selected development topics for participants from relevant organizations and agencies in Eastern and Southern Africa. Invitations are open to applicants for the Advanced International Training Programme “Mine Water and Mine Waste Management.” The overall objective of this program is to develop a sustainable use of natural resources and to secure safe living environments for future generations. Sida will cover costs related to all program phases except personal expenses, visa fees or any local airport taxes and departure fees. The closing date for applications is 24 May 2020. The Department of Science and Technology (DST) India and the Dutch Research Council (NWO) aim to contribute to cleaning the Ganga, with particular focus on the impact of agriculture on the Ganga water system. Proposed projects may focus on river basin system management and research, propose interventions to improve agricultural water management, or produce science-based recommendations for policies and regulations that contribute to increased water awareness. Proposals should furthermore be characterized by equal partnership and sustainable collaboration between the Indian and Dutch partners. Applications can be submitted by consortia that include research organizations, academic institutions, and/or public, semi-public or private organizations (for-profit or non-profit). Consortia can apply for a maximum of €700 thousand at NWO (Dutch research partners) and a maximum of Rs. 5.5 crores from DST (Indian research partners). The deadline for submissions is 12 May 2020. The European Commission seeks projects with focus on improving sanitation of the urban environment and hygiene practices for populations in Nkayi and Owando (Zimbabwe). Applicants may request budgets between $4-5 million for project implementation. Eligibility extends to non-profit organizations. Applications have to be submitted by 13 May 2020. The Joint Programming Initiatives (JPIs) on Water, Oceans and Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) announces a call for research and innovation projects on risks posed to human health and the environment by pollutants and pathogens present in water resources. A total of €22.6 million has been allocated for this call. There is no limit of total budget for proposals. Each consortium must be composed of eligible independent entities from a minimum of three different EU Member States or H2020 Associated countries (listed in the announcement). The European Commission seeks to provide access to basic sanitation conditions and aims to promote of good hygiene practices in Chad. The objective of this call is to reduce the rate of defecation in the open air. The overall amount available under this call is €2 million. Eligibility extends to non-profit organizations. The Heineken Africa Foundation funds projects to improve mother/child care, and projects for water, sanitation, and health (WASH). The support extends to projects in Sub-Saharan African countries where Heineken has a local operating presence. For each project a partnership is created between the Foundation, the local Heineken brewery and a local or international NGO. The Foundation provides funding and administrative assistance.
