IHE Delft welcomes applications for a new short course on Water Resilient Recovery, focusing on disaster recovery and long term climate resilient planning. The course consists of an online portion covering much of the theory and background, starting on 10 December 2018. The second part of the course will consist of a 1-week face-to-face training in Singapore. A small number of scholarships are available. USAID invites concept papers to implement activities with focus on transforming how people relate to, manage and benefit from water. Annual Program Statement (APS) supports the water sector for the Southern Africa region: Angola, Botswana, Lesotho, Mozambique, Namibia, South Africa, Swaziland and Zambia. USAID intends to provide up to US$2 million to fund all awards made under this APS. Eligibility extends to U.S. and foreign non-profit organizations, businesses, universities, and individuals. The African Academy of Sciences (The AAS), and partners, announce new funding for technology-based solutions to improve access to water and sanitation. Up to US$100 thousand will be given to projects for two years for technologies that improve access to clean drinking water, household sanitation and hygiene, and address urban pollution. The call is open to organizations. Applicants located in Africa should apply through The AAS while those in the rest of the world should apply through the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. The IUSSTF invites applications for the Water Advanced Research and Innovation (WARI) Fellowship Program. Selected Indian students and scientists will gain access to the research facilities at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and the Daugherty Water for Food Institute. The fellowship covers travel, monthly allowance and insurance for up to 12 months. Professionals and students in Water Science & Engineering are invited to apply. The deadline is 10 November 2018. France Libertés – Danielle Mitterrand Foundation launches a call for proposals about the positive impact people can have on the link between the cycle of water and climate. The Foundation will support projects which work to return water to the earth to restore the climate, in order to guarantee water access and to encourage its sustainable management. For this purpose, grants of between € 8 thousand and €12 thousand can be requested. Any non-profit organisation (including local communities, universities, research institutes, and trade unions) is welcome to apply. Applications have to be submitted by 26 October 2018. IHE Delft announces a call for “Research for Development Proposals led by Institutes from Developing Countries”. The purpose of this call is to encourage collaboration between researchers from developing countries and to stimulate problem-orientated research to support the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) related to water and development. Projects may apply for €100 thousand and should address one or more of the following themes: (i) Gender and inclusiveness in relation to water and development; (ii) Efficient water management, particularly in the agricultural sector; (iii) Improved catchment area management and safe deltas; (iv) Access to clean drinking water and basic sanitation; (v) Water diplomacy. The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation calls for solutions to make it easier to access safe, clean water and sanitation services for the urban poor in low- and middle-income countries. The Foundation seeks solutions that target individuals, families, communities, urban planners, service providers, or WASH/ food infrastructure, networks, and systems. Selected early-stage projects will receive US$100 thousand and have one opportunity to apply for a follow-on award of up to US$1 million. The Water Advanced Research and Innovation Fellowships fund Indian participants to gain exposure and access to research facilities in water resources at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and the Daugherty Water for Food Institute. Fellowships of three to twelve months are for Indian scientists holding a PhD in water science and engineering. Internships of three to six months are for individuals currently engaged in their PhD studies in water sciences in India. The application deadline is 10 November 2018. Link

The Hindustan Unilever Foundation (HUF) supports projects that offer solutions for highly efficient use of water in agriculture. The idea is to transform India’s water footprint in agriculture from a highly inefficient state to a more sustainable one. Interested organisations are encouraged to apply for long term projects (over 4 – 5 years), that can be initially incubated for 18-24-months. The World Academy of Sciences Sub-Saharan Africa Regional Partner (TWAS-SAREP) honours one young scientist who has made significant contribution to improve sustainability of water and sanitation-related activities and programmes in the developing world. The winner will receive US$ 2,000. Nominees must be sub-Saharan African nationals. Nominations are invited from TWAS fellows, research institutions, research councils and universities.
