Located in the Netherlands, UNESCO-IHE offers six scholarships for the Water Cooperation and Diplomacy master’s programme. The objective of the program is to train future water managers and other professionals to address competition over water. Eligibility extends to existing and future water professionals from Afghanistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan. The scholarship will cover educational fees, however, successful applicants will be required to fund up to approximately US$5 thousand for living costs and flights. The Water JPI aims to enable transnational, collaborative research, development and innovation projects addressing questions relating to water challenges. Proposals are invited on the topic “Water resource management in support of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals”. Only proposals submitted by transnational consortia will be eligible (each consortium must be composed of at least a minimum of three eligible partners from three different countries). Eligibility extends to universities, public research institutions, private non-profit organisations, and private companies. The requested budget per proposal must not exceed € 1.5 million. The Wageningen UR Centre for Development Innovation invites participants for its short-term course on “Wetlands, Integrated Water Resources Management and Food Security”. The course will be held in the Netherlands from 4 June 2018 until 22 June 2018. The course has been designed for wetland managers; river basin and land-use planners; policymakers, consultants, researchers, NGOs, and companies. The Water for Women Fund aims to improve health, gender equality, and well-being of Asian and Pacific communities. Australia’s DFAT invites proposals for projects from civil society and not-for-profit organisations that promote access to water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH). The eligible countries are Bangladesh, Bhutan, Cambodia, Fiji, India, Indonesia, Kiribati, Lao PDR, Myanmar, Nepal, Pakistan, Papua New Guinea, Philippines, Samoa, Solomon Islands, Sri Lanka, Timor-Leste, Tonga, Tuvalu, Vanuatu, and Vietnam. The Human Development Innovation Fund seeks to fund innovative projects in water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) in Tanzania. Projects should increase demand, uptake and sustainability of improved sanitation facilities through innovative financing mechanisms, technology, and behavior change promotion. The lead applicant should be an organization based in Tanzania. Support for pilot and scale-up projects is between £500 thousand and £1 million. The application deadline is 08 September 2017. Link

The Netherlands Enterprise Agency manages the Sustainable Water Fund (FDW) as a public-private partnership for water safety and water security in developing countries. Projects are collective initiatives between governmental bodies, industries, and NGOs. The thematic areas are improved access to drinking water and sanitation (including solid waste); efficient and sustainable water use, particularly for agriculture; and safe deltas and improved basin management. The Water Advanced Research and Innovation Fellowships fund Indian participants to gain exposure and access to research facilities in water resources at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and the Daugherty Water for Food Institute. Fellowships of three to twelve months are for Indian scientists holding a PhD in water science and engineering. Internships of three to six months are for individuals currently engaged in their PhD studies in water sciences in India. The application deadline is 31 August 2017. Link
REACH is a 7-year programme funded by the UK’s Department for International Development, and led by the University of Oxford, to promote research in water science, policy, and practice. REACH will fund a postdoctoral African to develop a hydro-economic tool or model that can be used by Ethiopia’s Ministry of Water, Irrigation and Electricity to address water economics in the important Awash Basin. Applicants must be nationals of a Sub-Sahara African country and should hold a PhD at the time of application.The available funding is up to £60 thousand through March 2019. Europe’s ERA-NET promotes the coordination of research at national and regional levels in the EU’s member states and associated states through research networking and the mutual opening of national and regional research programs. The current call by ERANETMED focuses on sustainable water management for vulnerable communities in the Euro-Mediterranean countries. Participating countries are Algeria, Cyprus, Egypt, France, Germany, Italy, Jordan, Lebanon, Morocco, Portugal, Spain, Tunisia, and Turkey. USAID invites applications to scale up investments in green infrastructure in Peru as a strategy to regulate water supply and increase resilience to climate change. The five-year program will aim to build public awareness and political support for improved management of Andean watersheds, and to propose site-specific projects that invest in ecosystem services to reduce soil erosion and improve water supply.
