Grant Programs for Agriculture, Energy, Environment, Natural Resources
Instrumental Access. In its program “Instrumental Access,” Seeding Labs requests and receives donated scientific instruments and supplies for forward donation to qualifying recipients. The recipients are degree-granting universities in low-and-middle income countries.
Seeding Labs accepts new and used donated equipment from a variety of sources, including research institutions and manufacturers. The equipment categories focus on the life sciences.
Seeding Labs packs and ships the donated equipment to the winning applicants. The receiving universities are charged a fee to help cover the costs of program administration, equipment warehousing, equipment packing, and ocean freight.
Past donations include examples of equipment and supplies useful in university departments of biology, entomology, environmental sciences, animal husbandry, and several others.
Note: Seeding Labs does not accept applications from independent or national research institutions; primary or secondary schools; medical clinics; out-of-school programs; or private companies.
Geographical Distribution of Grant Activities in Developing Countries
Seeding Labs invites individuals, corporations, and manufacturers for donations of equipment, funds, or time.
For prospective applicants, equipment categories show the range of equipment and supplies that may be available in Seeding Labs’ inventory.
In addition to donating science equipment, Seeding Labs has an ambassador program and fellows program to build science capacity. The ambassador program sends U.S. scientists to the developing world. The fellows program works in the opposite direction to bring early- and mid-career faculty to the USA for immersion programs. (Note: At the time of this update, these programs are in search of sponsorship.)
