Israeli Agency for International Development Cooperation
Capacity building in agriculture, food security, and natural resources for professionals in developing countries
Principal Office: Israel
Israel’s Agency for International Development Cooperation (MASHAV is the acronym in Hebrew) is the country’s organization for official development cooperation. Priorities in MASHAV are poverty alleviation, food security, empowerment of women, and basic health and education services in developing countries.
One of MASHAV’s main program areas is support for sustainable agriculture and food security. MASHAV’s agricultural program is managed by the Center for International Agricultural Development Cooperation (CINADCO) in Israel’s Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development.
MASHAV also offers capacity building through CINADCO and other Israeli partner organizations in subject areas that include renewable energy, arid lands management (combating desertification), water management, and other topics in natural resources.
Grant Programs for Agriculture, Energy, Environment, Natural Resources
1 — Training in Israel. MASHAV coordinates with Israeli partner organizations to offer tailor-made courses in Israel that focus on specified subject areas. Most courses are for two to four weeks. MASHAV works in several languages (e.g., English, French, Spanish, and Russian).
For some but not all courses in Israel, the course participants or their sponsors are responsible for the costs of travel, tuition, and accommodation. In other cases, MASHAV covers some or all of these costs by offering scholarships.
2 — Training in Developing Countries. MASHAV delivers mobile short courses in requesting developing countries, combining Israeli instructors with local counterparts for each course. The offerings include courses in agriculture via MASHAV’s partnership with CINADCO.
