Alliance for a Green Revolution in Africa
Grants for projects and research to advance agricultural development in Sub-Saharan Africa
Principal Office: International
The Alliance for a Green Revolution in Africa (AGRA) funds research, field projects, and capacity building to improve small-holder agriculture in Sub-Saharan Africa.
AGRA was founded by the Rockefeller Foundation in partnership with the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. AGRA receives additional financial support from African national governments, financial institutions, companies, foundations, and multilateral and bilateral organizations.
Grant Programs for Agriculture, Energy, Environment, Natural Resources
Grants supporting agricultural research and development. AGRA has program areas for improved agricultural seed; soil health and fertility; improved agricultural markets; strengthened agricultural policies and partnerships; innovative financing; and support for farmers organizations.
Most grants are to African agencies and institutes for agricultural research; private African seed companies; and universities and research institutes (primarily but not exclusively African).
The majority of grants to date are larger than US$100 thousand, with several in the multi-million dollar range.
APPLICATION: AGRA no longer supports competitive grant making, and it only occasionally funds unsolicited proposals. AGRA publishes occasional calls for concept notes.
